Why I Caved on Guns When I Ran for Governor of Texas

I am a lifelong Democrat. I proudly boast an “F” rating from the NRA. And, yet during my 2014 gubernatorial campaign in Texas, I supported the open carry of handguns in my state. It is a position that haunts me.

No surprise here. Typical politician - do whatever it takes to get ME elected. Then do whatever I want once in office.

Yes, boo-hoo-hoo, indeed.
A government of the people, by the people, for the people.
Mrs. Davis, you do not represent the majority of the people in Texas.
Texas has a low violent crime rate. We are able to defend ourselves. We like it that way.
Move to New York or California where you belong, Mrs. Davis.

I vividly recall where I was when I hatched the idea for the open carry position I ended up taking. It was a late night in February 2014, and I was bone-tired after finishing fundraising in Colorado. Standing in the noisy, crowded TSA screening area of the Denver airport, I received a call from my strategy team back home. My opponent, [back home,] the current Gov. Greg Abbott, had staked out his position in support of the open carry of handguns and I was being asked to stake mine out as well.
So she was up in Denver, soliciting money from the same people who think that AR15s should be illegal, who wanted to limit magazine capacity (and did), and who are so stupid that that they think an AR would permanently run out of ammo when its magazines were empty, and who support municipal passage of laws ignoring state preemption of gun laws, etc., etc., etc.

In other words, she went out of state to try and defeat the will of Texas voters.

She's a political whore...... which more or less matches the way she has conducted the rest of her life.

I couldn't finish reading the article but two things struck in the portions I read. Here is a woman who tries to convince the reader she has principles yet abandons them to defraud the voting public. The other "I was bone-tired after finishing fundraising in Colorado.". Never mind that she is so obtuse she doesn't know the Sandy Hook's shooter's weapons were legally purchased. And as far as we know thus far the firearms in San Bernardino were, also. Wendy you really are what you say you are; a spineless, lying, end justifies the means politician. The people of Texas saw straight through you. I feel sorry for you, NOT!
Edit: You bet me too it TAM

This article is nothing but more proof of how out of touch she is with the majority of Texans.

Boo hoo, poor me.

She talks about her principles. She wouldn't know a principle if it walked up and slapped her.

She did imply one thing in the article that I agree with:

Quote:
...having watched Democrat Ann Richards lose her 1994 gubernatorial re-election campaign after she vetoed a concealed carry bill.

It would be a more accurate description if you removed the modifier "political." That would more accurately describe what you are when you "sleep" with someone for financial benefit.....which is how she used her first husband.

Yeppers. I just wanted to be sure to get my comment past the moderators. Hence the addition of "the way she has conducted the rest of her life."

She lost the Governor's race by a wide margin that, I believe, was a record. She got caught in multiple lies, all of which went to her lack of character, honesty and decency. He claim to infamy was being the head cheerleader for killing babies in Texas. These are the reasons Texans despise lying Wendy Davis.
