Just saw this one pop up today, seems like they want to make it easier to charge victims with a crime.

Re: Group trying to repeal stand your ground laws
I don't know if this article is correct about the American Bar Association (ABA), but I do know it has always been anti-gun. I resigned decades ago and when I got calls asking me to join again, I told them that would happen only if/when the ABA stopped taking political positions on issues that have nothing to do with the practice of law.
The good news is the ABA is powerless; not even a majority of attorneys in the country join, support, or agree with its liberal philosophy.
Chas.

True it stated in the article that they have no power to make laws, however in some communities the beliefs of a lawyer who is an upstanding member of the community could have sway over public opinion on matters to those on the fence. Just something to be aware of and educate people who do not truly understand what the laws mean and how they protect law-abiding citizens.

Charge them with a crime? OR be able to sue them in civil court afterward? I bet it is the lawsuit protection some of them don't like.Medley86 wrote:http://www.thetrace.org/2015/09/america ... ound-laws/

I hought this part was funny. "states with statutory immunity provisions related to Stand Your Ground modify them to eliminate civil immunity provisions."
Sounds like some lawyers are looking for easier money.

Re: Group trying to repeal stand your ground laws
I don't think anyone pays the slightest attention to the ABA these days.
I may have been a member when I was first admitted, 40 years ago, in all the excitement of the occasion, etc. but I can't remember the last time I thought about them.
The US Senate doesn't pay much attention. Eminent jurists rated "well qualified" or "qualified" are left to languish and can't get a vote on confirmation.
When you are a member, they constantly panhandle for money for this or that supposedly noble purpose, and your name appears on one of the world's most prized mailing lists, so you have that annoyance.
This report will be cited in support by those who seek repeal but places that have such a law, all of recent vintage, will not be swayed.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Disgusting. I wonder what the real motive behind this push is.Medley86 wrote:http://www.thetrace.org/2015/09/america ... ound-laws/

For some people it's all about the money.

We do not have "Stand your ground " in Texas
Texas Law says "is not required to retreat before using deadly force"
Sounds a lot better doesnt it..

Thanks, I believe that expresses my opinion of the article much better than I could with words.C-dub wrote:For some people it's all about the money.

Re: Group trying to repeal stand your ground laws
The article reads as if the committee or the ABA as a whole is made up of plaintiff layers looking for another revenue stream. We don't need stand your ground in order to create an open season on thugs. They've done that all on their own. If you want to reverse the so called current trend, start with Al, Jessie, and the black lives matter folks.
