interesting they think they can swing King - he is listed as a co-author! "rlol"

Or maybe they are just irritated at Rep Driver calling them the 'Brady Bunch' during the hearing

Based on Representative King's comments during the hearing, it sounds to me as if he's considering the possibility that the bill should be amended to only prevent schools from restricting licensed concealed carry in parking lots.

Based on his comments and questions during the hearing it also appeared as though he was considering campus carry as an option only for faculty and staff. I believe his line of comments and questions indicated that faculty and staff are often forced to stay late (teaching night classes etc..) and they should be allowed to defend themselves while walking back to their vehicle. I emailed Rep. King and pointed out that while this is true, many students stay on campus well past the last faculty members leave working on group projects etc. I know this because my youngest daughter is often on campus well after midnight, and at Texas A&M she often has a 45 minute walk to her assigned parking area. I hope he considers this point.

Surely Rep. King must know that it is already law that these schools cannot prohibit CHL's from carrying in parking lots...as well as streets, walkways, driveways and other such areas, with limited exceptions.

I think Universities can implement administrative rules that govern student and employee behavior, including prohibiting the possession of a firearm anywhere on University property. No penal code is broken by carrying on the grounds, but there might be other repercussions if you 're student or employee with a firearm on campus. Kind of the same deal as employers not allowing employees to keep a handgun in their locked car while it's on the employers parking lot.

You're exactly right on the campus carry. However, employers can post 30.06 that would make car carry illegal. Whether a written or verbal policy counts as effective notice is an open issue.

Your are exactly correct. I misread the item. Thanks for pointing it out.

The two swing votes seem to be Reps. Hubert Vo and Tryone Lewis. At the moment 4 Public Safety committee members are authors or co-sponsors. We need 5 votes. Please contact these two reps and encourage them to support the Campus Carry bill.

I thought the bills would allow CHL's to carry on campus? I dunno', if the bills force people to have guns on campus, I may have to rethink my position. :headscratch
