College Student Handbook Rules

#1

Post by speedsix »

...my son is attending a community college in Texas...has a CHL...we know he cannot yet carry on campus, but the handbook forbids having the weapon on school property...which would include the parking lot by definition...have there been any changes to state law permitting the firearm to be left secured in the vehicle in the college-owned parking lot? Would the intent of HB2112 have any strength against college policy which, according to the handbook, is agreed to upon enrollment? Are colleges required to 30.06 post their parking lots or is the handbook entry binding? Thanks for your help...

This is a two part response. Legally it is OK for him to have his weapon in his car or even carry concealed on school property (not in school premises). However, just because it is legal will not prevent him from being expelled if he is discovered on school grounds with a weapon violating school policy.
