Do we have an "Other Countries" sub forum? Sorry if I missed it.
Israel significantly relaxes gun license regulations
"Sending the citizens of Israel to protect themselves with pizza trays, selfie sticks, guitars and umbrellas is a crime of the state against its citizens. A law abiding citizen, who has the basic skill required, is entitled to be able to defend himself and his surroundings."

Unlike the US, Israel does not allow unlimited gun ownership and strictly controls who is allowed to own a weapon. Citizens wishing to be armed must be over 21 and have a valid reason for needing a gun, such as living in Judea and Samaria or working in a hazardous environment. Buying assault weapons is forbidden and every gun owner is only allowed to own up to 50 bullets.
Only 50 bullets?

With that limitation range practice is also limited...
Politicians are idiots everywhere.

While this may not be the way we would like things to ultimately be in Israel, at least they are making strides, to allow large numbers of citizens to protect themselves. They already have teachers armed, and a large security force.
There is still a large contingent of the population, who are opposed to citizens being armed, but there have already been several cases, where armed citizens repelled attacks. Hopefully, more loosening of restrictions will occur.

Anti-Armed self defense is evidently common everywhere.
I simply don't understand...especially given the enemy is going to be armed.
Not everyone is M. Ghandi...some prefer to live.

Well, while it was a different time and under different circumstances, it should truly make us grateful for the wisdom, foresight and religious foundation of those who stood up against the British and authored our US Constitution!

May have something to do with the citizens that stood up to Britain all had advanced military styled rifles at home.

I think that our Founding Fathers would have had some interesting disagreements with secular Zionists, even though at the end of the day, they may all share in their desire for very similar outcomes. It is all a matter of how you get there.
It's instructive to keep in mind how vastly different the two forms of government are...we are a Constitutional Republic (with a 2nd amendment), Israel is a Parlimentary (originally quite Socialist) Democracy, and there is no 2A.

Of course, there may be other reasons that very few 7-11's in Israel ever get held up...

Israel eases gun controls following lone-wolf attacks
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said the change could help thwart "lone-wolf attacks" by Palestinians, who have carried out gun, knife and car-ramming assaults that have at times been deadly.
"Many civilians saved lives during attacks and, in an age of 'lone-wolf terror', the more trained civilians carrying arms, the higher the chances of thwarting attacks and minimising casualties," Erdan said in a statement.

Israel response to a mass shooting.
Make it easier to get guns. An armed population can defend itself.

Israel has its share of gun grabbers, which in recent years very much restricted the rights of ordinary Israeli's from their RKBA. Its good to see that Israel’s Security Cabinet is realistic and rational in their response to the synagogue attack.
