Missouri lawmakers voted yesterday to override the Governor's veto on a firearms bill that allows firearms training and carry for teachers in schools, dropped the age for CHL from 21 to 19, overrides cities being able to prohibit licensed open carry and other changes.

:thumbs2: That's what can happen when people vote for pro-gun legislators regardless of party.

I have a couple of very good friends that are legislators in Missouri. They are both very pro 2A as are the majority of the others in both the House and Senate. Even a large part of the Democrats in the legislature are gun people as Missouri is predominantly rural and there is a lot of agriculture and hunting. Surprisingly, the Democrat Governor is actually pretty pro-gun, but the liberal Democrats got to him and the lobbyists for the schools swayed him to veto the bill due to the pressure of the anti's not wanting teachers to be able to carry. He must be getting soft as he was one of the main driving forces behind the original concealed carry bill passing in 2005.

I'm thinking about the reduction in age to 19 to conceal carry as I haven't given it much thought before. I'm a little surprised they did that. I would trust my son to do it at 19. What do you think about them doing this?

Having lived near a military base, I don't think the average 19 year old soldier is any more mature than the average 19 year old.

What's your point? They don't let them carry on base.

:headscratch What's your point? College students can't carry in class in Texas.

The Air Force security folks on the base I work at seem to be pretty responsible while armed. I'd say its possible they are less responsible when they aren't armed.

You are the one that brought up 19 year old military personnel. I didn't say anything about college kids caring in class. Not all 19 to 21 year olds go to college so the class point may or may not come in to play. I'm just trying to understand why you brought up 19 year military personnel and what relevence you think it had to this discussion.

There is a difference between a 19 year old trained soldier and the average 19 year old kicking around town. Now whether the average 19 year old should or should not be allowed to carry, I haven't formulated a strong opinion yet.

As far as the air force security force, what age are they?
