CA AB 1014 "Gun Violence Restraining Order"

It looks like some well known anti-gun legislators in CA gutted and amended a dead assembly bill from 2013 and turned it into this. The kicker is this was amended in the state senate.

It's almost as if they had it ready to go and jumped at the opportunity to introduce it after the Isla Vista murders...which they keep calling a mass shooting. Somehow 2 people murdered with a gun now qualifies as a mass shooting?

A thread on Cal Guns with more info:

The text of the bill:

There's a lot to the bill worth reading but this part stands out and it disturbs me to no end. This is ripe for abuse.
18102.
(a) The magistrate, before issuing the gun violence restraining order, may examine on oath, the person seeking the order and any witnesses the person produces, and shall take his or her affidavit or affidavits in writing, and cause the affidavit or affidavits to be subscribed by the parties making them.

(7) Evidence of recent acquisition of firearms or other deadly weapons.

But it seems to me, as a citizen, that the CA legislators pulled a high-order bit of chicanery in getting that legislation passed.
The original bill and the end result have NOTHING in common.

How does this sort of crap happen?

BECAUSE WE LET IT.

Wake up call for all.

Doesn't look very good for Americans trapped in California. This liberal cesspool of a State is on my never visit list...

Trapped? Everyone has a choice. They can choose a free state or a slave state.

I agree completely. That is the second most disturbing part of this bill IMO. The first part is the actual text of the bill itself.

I am curious as to what Moonbeam is going to do if the bill passes and is sent to his desk. He's vetoed more anti-gun legislation than I would have expected.

"Somehow 2 people murdered with a gun now qualifies as a mass shooting?"

This is the sort of comment that the anti gun folks just love to see and read about. Please help us all out then. Just how many murdered people does it take before you have a mass murder? 3, 30, 11 million? It appears the intent of the young man was indeed to perpetrate a mass murder. That he failed in his self appointed task does not diminish the value of the lives that he DID snuff out. As for California, I live in Texas and have no control over the fools on the west coast. If the state wants to overregulate and the people are all good with it, then that is their issue to resolve, not ours. That's why we have 50 states.
