this is chris from hilton head island, south carolina and now that south carolina has passed restaurant carry, what does that do with resiprocity with texas?

COLUMBIA, SC — With Gov. Nikki Haley’s signature, South Carolinians licensed to carry concealed firearms will be able to carry guns into bars and restaurants as long as they do not drink.
The S.C. House passed a bill Thursday to allow concealed weapons in restaurants by a 90-18 vote, sending the bill to Haley’s desk. Passage of the bill is an expansion of gun rights that had been sought for years by 2nd Amendment advocates.

It affects what you can do in South Carolina, but has no effect on what you can do in Texas.

You can't carry if the establishment get 51% or more of its revenue through alcohol. Signs on the door indicate if this is the case.
I've never been in a restaurant in Texas where I couldn't carry.

I've spent a lot of time on Hilton Head Island when I was stationed at Parris Island. Great seafood and lot's of Scotch!

Come to think of it, I don't think I have either. I would think any such place that gets >51% of its income from the sale of alcoholic drinks would be more a bar/honky-tonk with food rather than a restaurant with adult beverages.

Here's the difference between SC and TX.

As jmra stated, you can't carry in a location that get's more than 51% of its revenue from the sale of alcohol FOR ON PREMISE CONSUMPTION. Liquor stores or places that sell for off-premise consumption only are OK to carry in.

SC now allows you to carry in any establishment that sells alcohol for on premise consumption, even bars that might make 100% of their revenue from alcohol sales. The difference is in SC you cannot drink one drop or you are in violation. In Texas, you can take a drink, but you just can't be intoxicated and carry.

It does not do anything with reciprocity.

Keep our law the way it is!

We've lived in South Carolina on two different occasions in the late 80's and again in the early 90's and SC had some interesting liquor laws back then, for instance:

* Bar drinks came in miniatures that the server had to open in front of the customer.
* Should you choose to visit another table, the server had to carry your drink.
* Liquor was sold only in state stores that were identified with big red dots.

SC people drank a lot....and, we tried to keep up. This has nothing to do with Texas.

If I'm not mistaken, the reason the citizens of SC perceive this change as an improvement is, previously, they could not carry in these establishments under any circumstances.
