Pennsylvania open-carry fiasco

A group of men went to a restaurant openly wearing handguns in some cases. A few had concealed-carry permits. One was an FFL, apparently allowed to carry concealed without a license in Pennsylvania. Alarmed patrons called the police, who confiscated weapons and filed charges. They held one man for an hour. Apparently none of them were booked.

Several of the charges were legally defective, such as carrying a concealed weapon when the weapon was worn openly, or possessing an unregistered weapon -- Pennsylvania does not have registration.

In the end, all charges were dropped and weapons returned.

I know for a fact that my brother has current copies of the penal code and all that stuff in his trunk at all times. He's not shy looking something up either if it's something that isn't common. Could this all have been avoided if instead of getting panicky at the sight of people wearing guns, they had double checked the laws? I don't know. I hate to back seat drive this one, but it looks like a little more knowledge could have helped out in that situation.

Never a good sign when those sworn to uphold the law don't know it.

They say ignorance of the law is no excuse, so when are those cops going to be prosecuted?

I am 100% pro law enforcement, but this is just an embarrassment. I don't think they should be prosecuted because it was probably done out of ignorance, but they should all be disciplined, especially the sergeants who let it happen.
