Not bad but still way too much red on that map. I am really pulling for Wisconsin to get a CCW law passed this year.
As for Nevada, well...

sure wish Alablama was grey, but then I wouldn't have an excuse to get a Utah permit :)

You might want to consider New Hampshire. $20 and a copy of your Texas CHL and you get it in the mail in about 2 weeks.

Governor is going to veto it, again. The Senate will override the veto easily but it's very close in the House.

Mr. Charles would you be so kind as to point in the right direction to start the New Hampshire process?
Thanks

Thanks for the information. I will be doing this first thing in the morning. I am having to sell my Honda Goldwing because of health problems. I can't hold the bike up anymore. So, I am going load up my Fifth Wheel and do some traveling. I think it would be a good thing to have.

carlson1, I know you're a former LEO. Do you have a medical retirement, or did you retire with at least 15 years of service?

If so, you're covered under LEOSA, and don't need a license from any state.

edit to add:
Unlike active duty LEOs, who only need their credentials, retirees must carry their retiree credentials and proof of having qualified in the past 12 months by the statewide standard (if one exists) for active duty officers in their state of residence.

I have a medical retirement. I had two years at the Smith County Sheriff's Dept, but only got in 11 for the State. But, because of the medical I draw a little retirement.

LEOSA doesn't have a time-of-service requirement for retirees who retire because of a service-related disability. You only have to have completed probation, have a right to non-forfeitable benefits, and the disability can't be for reasons of mental instability.

If you meet those criteria, and you have a retiree photo ID from your agency, and you have a Range Q from TCLEOSE less than 12 months old, then 18 USC 926(c) covers you to carry in NYC, DC, Chicago, etc., etc.

You can find a copy of the law by going to the "Public laws" section of Thomas, and looking for PL 108-277. Then you can get either an HTML or PDF version from the government printing office. The good folks on the forums at policemag.com have pretty well covered all the relevant law.

My problems may be the "service-related disability." I retired in good standing with TECLOSE. I am still a Chaplin for a County and a City agencies. I am not CERTIFIED as a mental case - yet. A couple of more Deacon meetings and may check myself in. No, my medical is due to diabetes. It has caused heart problems along with severe nerve damage in my legs and sometimes my hands. To be honest it is hard sometimes to shoot 45. I have been forced to carry a .38 at times because of the hands.

I recently got a Utah permit. It only took a couple of weeks, but was more expensive than NH. Interesting thing, I copied my Texas License and sent it to UT with the application and they almost instanly sent the permit back with a letter saying it would be revolked if anything showed up in the background check. Now why can't Texas do that with renewals?
