Hello all,
First time posting.. I’m still waiting for my CHL to come in the mail arrrgg.. But I have a question: I’m about to take a vacation with the family and I should have my CHL at that time so of course I will be carrying. I know the state laws for Texas an Oklahoma but my destination is Witchita KS. Since Kansas does not honor the CHL what can I do.

I have no problem locking my gun in a box if needed but the laws are really weird for Kansas as they state you can wear your side arm in open view but that sounds like I will be looking for trouble.. Any suggestions…

Thanks.

I would open carry...I think. I know all the arguments against it, so don't flame me anybody! It's just the decision I made if I were put in a Open Carry or NO Carry crossroad.

Checking http://www.packing.org for Kansas info.

and WELCOME!

Welcome to the board.

I am not sure I'd want to be the ONLY person wearing a gun openly. It would probably generate unwanted attention.
You could wear a cowboy hat, folks will think you're a ranger or something and not even notice the gun on your hip.

Welcome to the forum!

This is what I gleened from OpenCarry.Org:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kansas

Summary:
While Kansas is an open carry state, they have NO preemption. This means that there are a patchwork of local ordinances that constitute a nightmare for the law abiding citizen.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kansas, to me, has always been a no-no state...There are elements in the elected government that are trying to rectify that issue...They have gotten their own CCW law passed in the state, and both times was vetoed, once by a RINO, and recently by a democrat govenor...

I'd study the database at Packing.org and make sure if you can at least render the firearm secured in a lockbox in your car, unloaded, ammo separate and locked away as well etc etc etc etc etc...

You'll still be going through Texas and Oklahoma, where your right is protected by that license, when you get it...But only then...

If you don't get it (CHL license) in the mail by the time you leave on your trip...Your options become limited...

Thanks all
