California's Microstamping Law Takes Effect

Didn't see this already posted, but had read stories on another forum (bayoushooter.com). No new guns will be added to the allowable list in California without the models microstamping the casings. Law was passed in 2007, but only now going into effect.

In other California news, there's a new 10% ammo tax, aimed to levy $92 mil.

Every day I'm more and more appreciative that I've lived in Texas and Louisiana, never California or New York.

More useless regulations gone crazy. There are so many ways around this new law. That said, I don't think that was the intent. More likely is that they hope manufacturers will not make any modifications to comply with the laws of one state and thus won't introduce any new models.

All gun and ammo manufacturers need to follow Ronnie Barrett's policy and not sell anything in California, including LEOs and their agencies.

I agree with Ronnie Barrett. Get it to the point that the government can not purchase or service their weapons, so they have to use slingshots like Tijuana issued to their police some years ago.

Get those dangerous weapons off the street.

To the point of this microstamping, it is idiotic in the extreme. All you have to do to ruin a crime scene is drop rounds of similar caliber you picked up at the local range, fired by half a dozen or more guns, an evidentiary pig's breakfast.

Better yet, police your own brass and drop somebody else's. Voila! You're not a suspect and an innocent person has a lot of explaining to do. Sneak into the police firing range at night and pick up a bunch of brass, and you can really drive the forensics people nuts.

Like most politicians, I haven't read the law, but I'm surprised police firearms weren't exempted. Otherwise, this would be an awesome idea. Well, except for the whole "bad guy getting away" thing.

This is like all the various Federal legislation that they are trying to ram through. Politicians say it is to cut down on crime when it is really designed just to take guns out of the hands of honest Americans. Period. And we all are starting to see how fairly the Federal Government behaves toward Conservative groups.

I thought the microstamping was so fragile that firing 5 or 600 rounds would do that. Bonus - it's more fun!
