Going to Louisiana, what do I need to know?
I have searched this forum and only thread I found was back in 2007, Im sure the laws have changed in 6yrs.
I plan on going to Bossier city and going to Bass pro and the boardwalk, maybe the boats also.
I know I cannot carry into any place that serves alcohol and Im sure the boats are off limits also.
What signs do I need to look out for? What are places in LA that are off limits to carry?
The LA carry forum is blocked at work so I cannot go to it.

Basically any no gun sign (gun buster, No Guns, etc) is valid.

I found this....Keith B wrote:Read here http://handgunlaw.us/states/louisiana.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So a store owner could write *no guns* with a crayon on a piece of paper and that would be legal...wow. Is the boardwalk CC friendly? Im sure bass pro allows CC.Do “No Gun Signs” Have the Force of Law?
“YES”
From the Louisiana DPS Concealed Handgun Unit Web Page.
The provisions of R.S. 40:1379.3 (N) shall not limit the right of a property owner, lessee, or other lawful
custodian to prohibit or restrict access of those persons possessing a concealed handgun pursuant to a permit
issued under this Section. No individual to whom a concealed handgun permit is issued may carry such
concealed handgun into the private residence of another without first receiving the consent of that person.
Note: Handgunlaw.us believes when you come across a business that is posted that you not just walk away.
That business needs to know that they lost your business because of their “No Gun” sign. Giving them a “No
Firearms = No Money” card would do just that.

A strange quirk of LA law is if you are carrying when you go to visit someone's home you must tell the homeowner you are carrying. If they say no gun then no gun. Be careful carrying where alcohol is concerned.

Yes, any sign is valid. And I believe someone said the boardwalk may be posted.nightmare69 wrote:I found this....Keith B wrote:Read here http://handgunlaw.us/states/louisiana.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yes the Boardwalk is off limits except for Bass Pro. You must enter Bass Pro from the main entrance and not exit Bass Pro from the rear (Boardwalk) entrance. The no guns is posted on a small general rules sign along with all the other rules so it is not so obvious. There are no gun busters or stand alone signs that I have noticed.
I love the sound smell of jet fuel in the morning.

Thanks. What about the boats? I rarely go into the casino part, we go there to eat the buffet at the horseshoe though.

There is conflicting law in LA, but bascially any resturant that serves alcohol is off-limits until they get it squared away. Carry in Restaurants That Serve Alcohol
NO RS 14:95.5 LA has conflicting laws on carry in places that serve alcohol. There are different sections that cover places that serve alcohol. One law says it’s OK if they have a class R (Restaurant License) and another law says no carry in places for consumption on the premises. There has been much debate inside the DPS and the AG’s Office over this. They are trying to get the law changed so there is no conflict. The person over the Firearms Unit has told me it is illegal under the law to carry in a place that serves for consumption on the premises. In the CCW section of LA law is says no carry in places that serve alcohol for consumption on the premises. Until they do iron it out Handgunlaw.us advises not to carry in places that serve alcohol for consumption on the premises in LA.
Note: Note: A “YES” above means you can carry into places like described below. “NO” means you can’t. Handgunlaw.us definition of “Restaurant Carry” is carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol. Places like Friday’s. Chili’s or Red Lobster. This may or may not mean the bar or the bar area of a restaurant. But you can carry your firearm into a restaurant that serves alcohol and sit and eat without consuming. Handgunlaw.us recommends you not sit at the Bar or in the Bar area of such restaurants. In some states it is illegal to be in the Bar area of such restaurants. Handgunlaw.us believes you should never consume alcohol when carrying your firearm. In some states it is illegal to take even one drink while carrying a firearm. If you want further info on carrying in places that serve alcohol check your state laws.

It's a Casino and I don't know any resturant in a casion that doesn't offer it. Additionally, I will bet there may be one liqour license for the whole place.
