If it is in an area I can secure until the police arrive there is no way I'm touching it. What if it was used in a crime? There is no way my finger prints are going to be on that gun and no way I'm going to be responsible for destroying or compromising evidence.
Taking it home and calling the police from your house is just down right foolish IMHO.

I am not touching that gun. My fingerprints are not going to be on that gun. I have heard of far too many good people going to jail for something they did out of kindness and common sense. There is no sense left in this country and so I could not in good conscience put my family at risk. If that gun was used in a crime and I touched it I am sure there is all manner of charges that could be thrown at me. I would call the police and let them handle it. I would also alert the store employees and tell them to close and secure the dressing room.
