Interesting article on page 3a in DMN.
Also interesting that it was written by someone from the
New York Times.

Is this the article?

If so, it appears to have some interesting "facts" The author cites NJ as one of the places that allow OC. Hmmm. Perhaps for a very few but overall NJ is a "May Issue" state and regular citizens cannot get a CCW let alone OC.

I guess he is technically correct as NJ allows licensed open carry just as OK does.

I lived there 3 years. If it is technically correct, that is a very well kept secret. I suspect that OC in NJ would be a sure way to exercise the "suicide by cop." scenario.

Apparently NJ doesn't distinguish between open and concealed carry in their law, so as you say it may technically be correct, but may not be a smart move.

That's nice. I'm looking forward to my trip through OK to KS next month even more now. I know it's only the first day, but so far I've read several positive stories from folks OCing today and none of them have been hassled by LE. You just know it'll happen somewhere, but they seem like they're off to a good start.

Does this mean that you are planning to be the non-resident test case? :evil2:

Well, I asked the question over on OCDO in the Oklahoma section and one of them posted the following from OK's reciprocal agreement law.
RECIPROCAL AGREEMENT AUTHORITY

The State of Oklahoma hereby recognizes any valid concealed or unconcealed carry weapons permit or license issued by another state.

Any person entering this state in possession of a firearm authorized for concealed or unconcealed carry upon the authority and license of another state is authorized to continue to carry a concealed or unconcealed firearm and license in this state; provided the license from the other state remains valid. The firearm must either be carried unconcealed or concealed from detection and view, and upon coming in contact with any peace officer of this state, the person must disclose the fact that he or she is in possession of a concealed or unconcealed firearm pursuant to a valid concealed or unconcealed carry weapons permit or license issued in another state. Any person who is twenty-one (21) years of age or older having a valid firearm license from another state may apply for a handgun license in this state immediately upon establishing a residence in this state.
And that they called the OSBI office (I don't know what that is.) and spoke to someone in the legal department that said someone in my situation would be legal to OC in OK under their new law. I will be closely monitoring this for the next several weeks before my trip just in case it turns out that it is not okay. Otherwise, I guess I might be the test case. Unless there is an emergency, I usually only make one stop in OK to fill up with gas and in mid to late December the weather may or may not cooperate enough to OC.

Not quite. The OHP is the equivalent of the DPS.

In the Hierarchy of OK LEA's they are approximately the equivalent of the Rangers. :coolgleamA:

I was hunting in OK over the weekend and didn't see a single person with a pistol strapped on, and I still had mine concealed as well.

From what I have read on an Oklahoma based board that I am on, it has really been pretty quiet and a non issue, and the guys on that board actually seem a little disappointed.

Several have gotten "looks" and a couple have gotten comments, but no one has run away screaming for the police. :thumbs2:
