After an incident in which a fumble fingers DPS Trooper took my friends Lawfully concealed Hand Gun back to the Patrol Car and unloaded it and dropped the weapon on the concrete and marked it up. I personally would rather that Johnny Law not know I had a concealed Handgun Permit.

I understand the need under some circumstances for a LEO to remove your weapon from you, but not for going 6 miles over the Speed Limit and being polite and truthfull when pulled over.

If I held a permit from Virginia would Trooper Fumble Fingers know that I had a CHL ?

Until this particular incident - I really didn't have a problem with LEOs knowing I had a CHL - afterwards I certainly do - DPS Troopers ain't what they used to be, and Barney Fife's have always been with us, sadly.
Wow, that's a pretty tough standard. Haven't you dropped things? In my view, DPS is still the premier law enforcement agency in Texas and perhaps the country. A single incident (an accident at that) hardly justifies indicting the entire agency, or even that Trooper for that matter.

I feel the same way about the DPS and Texas Rangers as you, but as I said in my experience they are not what they once were.

If I drop a weapon for example on a Shooting Line, I would expect to be asked to leave.

I have concerns for my personal safety when I am around people with poor weapons handling skills, that in addition to the Trooper disarming my friend for just a minor speeding violation in which the Trooper was treated with the up most respect and courtesy.

Perhaps I am in the minority.

I agree about being around people with poor gun-handling skills, but I guess our difference of opinion is whether dropping a gun equates to poor gun handling skills. Obviously, the number of times it happened would be a major factor. In 58 years of handling firearms, I have dropped a handgun twice that I can recall and I still consider myself pretty good with a gun.

Has anyone actually taken this course yet?

My wife wants her CHL and she will eventually get one issued by Texas but this would be great for "in the meantime".

Your CHL timeline is pretty quick. Why is she waiting?

Money and there is a slight language barrier. I have one CHL instructor here that has agreed to let me sit-in on her class and "interpret" for her but it has been very difficult to get the schedules worked out. She definitely wants her Texas CHL (just because it's Texas :cool: ).

Has she taken a hunter safety class? I think Virginia accepts that as gun training.

She's had a 1 hour handgun safety class with range time but there was no certificate or anything like that.

It should be Constitutional Carry PERIOD, BUT it is not so. . .

The problem is the more of this that is pushed and advertised in States like Texas is that we are going to loose our reciprocity with other States. Then we will be limited to just where we live or have to purchase an out of residency license for ever State we are traveling through. :banghead:

Agreed, but we also need to keep our concealed handgun licensing the way it is for the simple reason of reciprocity like AZ.

Why bother? Just get an Inflatable Kayak Pancho

If I didn't have a TX CHL(not licensed under Ch. 411 Govt Code) and wanted to carry, even past a 30.06 sign, I'd probably just carry concealed in an inflatable kayak which was deflated, though you still lose the Federal school zone GFSZA exclusion.
Really any small kayak would probably do, but carrying concealed an an inflatable kayak that was deflated might be easier to get through doors etc.

Penal Code

Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not:

(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or

(2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control.

(a-1) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun in a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control at any time in which:

(1) the handgun is in plain view;
or

(2) the person is:

(A) engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic or boating;
:biggrinjester:

Why do you carry around a deflated inflatable watercraft everywhere?
Linus has his blanket, I have mine, I just carry it. (no license required, no 30.06 sign worries)
:lol:

So, a 30.06 sign specifically says it pertains to persons licensed under Chapter 411 Government code and so if someone is NOT, (say they carry under a deflated inflatable watercraft) . or carry under another State's license but are not licensed under Chapter 411 Government code ...

I'd rather have an inflatable kayak, what good is a Virginia license in a flood/hurricane etc?
:headscratch :lol::

I know, ...The "inside of" a vehicle/watercraft ... I'm thinkin' that's why you need to deflate it, "to wear it" ...
Ok, I need to patent the "Inflatable Kayak Pancho" or the "Inflatable Pancho Kayak"
I can sell them at gun shows, no license/course needed, ignore 30.06 signs, :hurry:

That will only happen if Texas legislators behave like kindergarteners throwing a temper tantrum. If they behave like adults, they will fix the problems and make a Texas CHL a competitive choice. The second result is preferred but if the first happens then we got what we deserve for electing spoiled brats instead of grown ups.

Elections have consequences.

What we need is a Federal Govt that can read/uphold the Constitution (SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED) and repeal ALL existing gun laws ("common sense") that affect LAW ABIDING Citizens with the exception of the ones barring felons and others from purchasing weapons.

:iagree:

I've been thinking about this a whole lot lately, it appears to me that the only constitutional right that requires a license or government approval is owning or carrying a firearm. I need to read through the constitution again, but I don't recall anything thing else that does.
