Orlando, Disney, and concealed carry
Whose guidelines prevail here, Florida's or Disney's? What Dept enforces those guidelines?
We will be staying on Disney property in a Disney Hotel with our vehicle parked in a Disney lot. I don't see any reasonable way that we can 'legally' store our firearms while in the Magic Kingdom. But we will get there by driving and spending a couple of nights on the road. My lady and I are both licensed to carry in several states and will do so, including Fla. I'd rather be legal about it 'tho.
Looks like a major 'Catch 22' in the making here.
Suggestions appreciated.

edit: I tried using the forum's search feature but didn't have any success there.

Re: Orlando, Disney, and concealed carry
I Googled "concealed carry at disney world", and got some good results. Several other gun forums have discussed it, and had some good views on the topic. Nothing 'official', as in Florida statutes, but the Disney web site says weapons of any kind are prohibited. FYI... DW is in Orange county if you want to search for a local DA or law agency to call. Good luck and enjoy.

FWIW... Recent Florida CC forum post and replies..
http://floridaconcealedcarry.com/Forum/ ... ght=disney" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And from http://www.Handgunlaw.us" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This information seems to concurr with the advice given the the above Florida CC forum post..

Also from same handgunlaw.us document”No Firearm” signs in Florida have no force of law unless they are posted on property that is specifically mentioned in State Law as being off limits to those with a Permit/License to Carry. If you are in a place not specifically mentioned in the law that is posted and they ask you to leave, you must leave. If you refuse to leave then you are breaking the law and can be charged. Even if the property is not posted and you are ask to leave you must leave. Always be aware of the possibility that responding Police Officers who may have been called without your knowledge and may not know the laws on trespass etc. could arrest you even if you are within the law.
Re: Parking lots...
(d) No public or private employer shall prohibit or attempt to prevent any customer, employee, or invitee from entering the parking lot of the employer's place of business because the customer's, employee's, or invitee's private motor vehicle contains a legal firearm being carried for lawful purposes, that is out of sight within the customer's, employee's, or invitee's private motor vehicle.
I am not a lawyer. This is NOT legal advice.!

Disney has its own little world and government in Florida. IOW, Disney sets its rules for its property. Be careful who wants to pat you down.

Do they do that at Disney World. routinely?Oldgringo wrote:Disney has its own little world and government in Florida. IOW, Disney sets its rules for its property. Be careful who wants to pat you down.

The answer, according to Fla Concealed Weapons Forum, is that Disney preferences do not supercede those of the State of Fla. just yet. But, if a firearm is detected and you are asked to leave, you must do so.
The Disney Hotels and Parking lots in Florida have the same guidelines as well as the same limitations. From what I understand the enforceable rules are: Concealed is concealed. If noticed, you will be asked to leave politely. If you get all bent out-of-shape over that, you will meet the County LEO folks.
Don't know about the Cruise Ships. Kinda doubt that you'd be forced to walk the plank in shark infested waters. The last boat ride we took with with a Grand-Kiddo (not Walt's boat), the luggage wasn't searched that we know of. No one seemed to care about what we went out with. But we did have to go through magnetic scanners and packages were subjected to x-ray inspection prior to re-boarding from various ports-of-call.
Which kinda/sorta brings up questions regarding crime onboard Ships at sea.

I think maritime law is a whole 'nother thing. My understanding is the captain dictates law outside territorial waters.
After that, your port of call has their own laws.
What happens if you are in possession of a firearm while docked in Cancun?
Mexico will imprison you if you have an empty cartridge, from what I hear.

If you're worried about offending Big Mouse, you can keep it locked in your vehicle while at Disney. I believe it's legal and, practically speaking, neither the hotel nor amusement park is likely to ask to search your vehicle, nor do they have any authority to search without your consent.

Re: Orlando, Disney, and concealed carry
I know the thread has been quiet for just over a month, but...
We (husband, kids and I) have driven to FL from TX and kept a gun in our vehicle during the trek to/from. Knew we couldn't carry while visiting Mickey's House. Once at our hotel, there it stayed, locked in a safe-box that we secured in the room, as we took a shuttle from our hotel everyday to the parks and back. If we went out to shop/eat using our own vehicle, we secured it in the glove box. I should also say that when we went out and our weapon was in the room, we decided to forgo the daily maid service and put out the "Do Not Disturb" sign. If we needed anything we just went down to the lobby and asked.

Re: Orlando, Disney, and concealed carry
Back from Fantasy Land now and I did carry for the first two days there. There was'nt any defense possible for the legal assault and robbery that occured, so Mr. Colt stayed in the room.
If Walt were alive, I'd like to think that the places would be more enteraining for impatient kiddos and gimpy adults, (read less waiting in line. 1.5 hours wait for 10 mnts of grins and giggles and sit down time isn't a fair trade off.)
Reserved seating at a Disney eatery that provided chef prepared food wasn't up to the standards of ball park nachos.
The Cruise was a hoot. Kids, grand-kids, my bride, and myself had a ball.
DisneyLand itself 'tho would suck the East River dry.

Re: Orlando, Disney, and concealed carry
Disney security is plane clothes. If you see two guys walking around with a fanny pack, motorolora iden phone and an coil tube on the ear, thats security. I personally watched them walk up to an arguing couple (pretty heated argument) and disappear with the couple in a matter of seconds before too many people noticed. It's extremely well orchestrated. Reading on the Disney forums, I've only seen once instance where they suspected someone was carrying. he had a chl and they approached him, ID'd themselves and nonchantly asked if he was in fact carrying a weapon. He stated he was and had the proper permits to do so. They asked him to take a walk with them. They took him to the front of the park, secured the weapon in a safety deposit box like box (2 keys, he kept one, they kept the other.) and let him on about the rest of his day. At the end of the day he went to claim his weapon and they asked him to leave it unloaded and concealed and to secure it in his room for the remainder of his stay. If he didn't feel comfortable doing that, they offered to allow him to leave it in a secure locker at one of their stations. They didn't make too big of a fuss for him.
Re: Orlando, Disney, and concealed carry
Considering the pull that Disney probably has with local law enforcement I'd say he did the right thing. Had he lied or made a stink they'd have just made his day unpleasant.george wrote:I believe (possibly mistakenly) that he was foolish to tell the security that he was carrying.

Re: Orlando, Disney, and concealed carry
It is funny that posts started on this thread now. I was in the Doubletree at the end of Lake Buena Vista this past Monday night and we were standing around the courtyard there, talking about this very subject. If you talk to the hotel people, they tell you that their signs do have the force of law and that they will call the LEOs if you are found with a firearm. It would be bad if you were asked to leave and had a paid hotel bill.
If I had been going someplace off the Disney property while I was there, I might have tried to take at least my LCP with me on the trip, just as a test for the procedure to do it. I didn't see any place that I did go where I could have ever been detected with the mouse gun.

A body can get skinned in Disney as easily as anywhere else.
Consider Disney as a Las Vegas for juveniles.
The Cruise was a good value. Grand-Kids, parents, and geezer parents were less taxed and better enterained.
