WV recip w/ Texas
Why is this an issue? I am active duty stationed in West virginia, and the state will not honor Texas CHL?! I cannot understand why. Texas' CHL couse is by far superior to the 3 hour class that is given in this state and Texas will honor thier lisence, but they sill not honor ours. I am truly frustrated about this, but since I am not tranferring my home of residence to WV and keeping Texas, I cannot even obtain thier CHL...they do have an open carry law, but once again, it only applies to residents( Which by accounts of the law here) I am not! Ughh!
This is right off the wv reciprication website:
" On the flip side of the coin, the are many gaps and deficiencies in our licensing criteria (West Virginia) that have resulted in at least 3 states--Minnesota, New Mexico, and Texas--deeming West Virginia's licensing standards inadequate under their standards for establishing reciprocity."
why is Texas even dealing with this state at all? We should tell them not to carry here until we can carry there!
Thanks for letting me vent!

Most likely is due to the fact that Texas allows 18-20 yr olds to obtain a CHL provided they are in the military. Might want to check if you can carry with a Florida license.

IANAL or an expert, but it seems to me an AZ Non Resident permit would be the easiest to obtain and you would allow to you carry in W. VA.

No. You can find more info on how to for Florida and other states that issue non resident permits here :imjester77 wrote:they do accept Florida...but dont I need to be there in order to obtain an out of state or non-resident lisence?

Utah is another possibility. Utah certified instructors can be found everywhere. Someone mentioned Arizona, but looks like you have to go there for the training. Fl or UT are your best bets.

"Can non-residents be issued an Arizona permit?
Yes. You must be a resident of Arizona or a U.S. citizen."
How can you be a non-resident if you are a resident?

Not true. AZ accepts TX training as sufficient.JJVP wrote:Someone mentioned Arizona, but looks like you have to go there for the training. Fl or UT are your best bets.

You have it reversed.imjester77 wrote:Why is this an issue?

Texas will not recognize WV licenses because Texas is unhappy with WV licensing standards.
WV standards would allow WV to accept Texas, but the law is set up that they can only have reciprocity with states where they enact a reciprocity agreement. Texas refuses to be part of that agreement.
If you are living there, a good source of information is the WVCDL.org. Jim Mullins is a good guy, you should contact him if you have questions.

Looks like you are correct, as it was pointed out by another poster. I was going by what was on Handgunlaw :Jumping Frog wrote:Not true. AZ accepts TX training as sufficient.JJVP wrote:Someone mentioned Arizona, but looks like you have to go there for the training. Fl or UT are your best bets.
General: Arizona issues one permit and does not differentiate between resident and non-resident. Non-residents may apply for a permit upon completion of the initial 8 hour class. Training must take place in Arizona.
