Silly question about reciprocity

#1

Post by dws1117 »

I was looking at the reciprocity maps on Packing.org and have a really elmentery question.

Can someone explain, in idiots terms, what the difference is between reciprocity and "honors xx state's permit"?

Well, TX honors several state permits that those states do not reciprocate. Since reciprocate is the root word of reciprocity, I would venture to guess that that is the difference. :D

Ok, ok. I think I get it now. My brain isn't working tonight.

Texas will honor the Missouri permit, but Missouri does not honor the Texas CHL. If Missouri would honor our CHL then it would be a recipricol agreement, hence recirocity.

Man the simple things continue to allude tonight. It's time to go to sleep.

Thanks for humoring me.

Simply put...

"Honors" - means its a "one way" street...

"Reciprocity" - means it goes "both ways"...

Example...

Texas "honors" New Mexico permit holders...But New Mexico does not honor a Texas CHL...

Does that mean New Mexico does not like Texas??? No...

It's mainly a legal hiccup, or better yet a work in progress...In New Mexico's case, they just got their stuff together and really overhauled their CCW law...Thats the good thing...

What happened even before that was that our Govenor proclaimed that Texas would recognize and honor their permit, and I think we did that knowing some good changes were happening for New Mexico...Which I also believe helped them get those positive changes enacted...

So I think that in the very near future, our prospective AG's will have finished ironing out some reciprocity deals, and get that color changed at the PDO site real soon...

I'm thinking before the end of this year...

But as it stand now...I think your ok in New Mexico without a permit or reciprocity, because you can keep the firearm handy, but just in an open way, or stored in a certain manner at certain times...echhh...You got to go check that States page over there...

I gotta go run a disk "defrag" on my brain...Theres too many fragments in there to remember all this stuff...

My question: Since we have a reciprocity agreement with Arizona, when we are there can we carry open, if we want? I mean in the destert and out of town, I have NO urge to open carry in Wal-mart...........

You are encouraged to follow Arizona CCW and firearms laws...They just understand and accept that Texas has a similar law and they (we) agree to allow each others CHL'ers to carry in our states...And to follow the state law (in that state)...

Those differences in the law that do not keep us from reciprocating are not that big a deal from what I understand them to be...So even since Texas does not have an open carry provision, and Arizona does...Well...While in Rome, do as the Romans do...

Thats just my take on it...

BTW, carry openly in Arizona, please...Its actually kinda exciting to do it...But be cool about it...Most people there don't make a big deal about it...

The Packing.org site hasn't been updated in quite a while and their map is out of date.

This is the most up to date map........ http://www.holeinthewallrange.com/My_Ho ... ocity2.jpg

Sorry, Didn't mrean for it to burn. It took us 13years to get a good CCW law. It still needs work though.

Just wanted travelers to know that Missouri recognizes ALL states licenses/permits. SFC Stu

I'm a bit surprised Missouri isn't open carry. After all, it is the "Show Me" State.
