Howdy to all my fellow TX CHL holders. I got my CHL early this year while living in TX. However, I just relocated to South Carolina for my job and would like to know what I need to do/not do in my new state. Is my TX CHL adequate, or should I go ahead an get a SC Concealed Weapons Permit? Also, Since the states are pretty small here, crossing state lines into say, GA, NC, and TN is pretty easy to do. What should I be aware of while traveling to different states. I never thought I would be living outside of TX and now here I am a thousand miles away from "home"!
Any help would be great fellas. I am updating my Address with TX DPS this week, so I should be getting a new card with my new perm. addy on it.
If there are any South Carolinians out there, give me a heads up on where I can and can't carry.
Thanks fellas...

Florida does honor many out of state CHLs, but unfortunately South Carolina is not among them. Here's a link to Handgunlaw's reciprocity map for Florida:It is good in all of the surrounding states, except Florida. They do not recognize an out-of-state CHL.

According to Handgunlaw's reciprocity map for South Carolina, that state's permit is honored in North Carolina and Tennessee but not in Georgia:Since the states are pretty small here, crossing state lines into say, GA, NC, and TN is pretty easy to do.

An option you may want to consider is to get a Florida CHL too - last time I checked, they issued to out of state residents, and their CHL is honored in Georgia.
Reciprocity arrangements change often (usually by the addition of new states), so it's a good idea to check with the individual states you're interested in to get the latest data.

Perhaps he meant "non-resident", instead of "out-of-state". Like Colorado: they'll recognize a Texas CHL, but only for Texas residents.Excaliber wrote:Florida does honor many out of state CHLs, but unfortunately South Carolina is not among them.It is good in all of the surrounding states, except Florida. That makes sense. According to hangunlaw.us, SC does recognize only CHL's where the licensee is a resident of the issuing state.Perhaps he meant "non-resident", instead of "out-of-state". Like Colorado: they'll recognize a Texas CHL, but only for Texas residents.

So... according to this, my Tx CHL is only good to me if I go to a state that recognizes it even though I am not a TX resident anymore... or if I return back to my beloved TEXAS.Excaliber wrote:That makes sense. Guess I better go ahead and get that SC permit then!
