Louisiana Parking Lot Bill Debate

The Louisiana House of Representatives is debating bills now. SB51, their employee parking lot bill, will be coming up for debate today. If anyone is interested, you can watch it or listen to the audio only at http://www.legis.state.la.us/billdata/horder.asp

I am amazed that other states seem to have little problems getting a parking lot bill passed, but Texas hasn't been able to get it done. When will we become leaders instead of followers.

Its not so surprising. I saw some of gun owners come out against the our bill in favor of property rights, while ignoring the right to protect ourselves. Apparently cars aren't property worth having rights about. There were very few repercussions to the folks who supported sabotaging our bill. We gun owners didn't complain and boycott enough. I got mailed a flyer from a hotel that I spent about $1500 a every year at. I called them and explained Why I couldn't support any business that was a member of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, they told me that it was the first they have heard it. Until it becomes financially painful for them them to continue these people will continue to attempt to thwart our rights. I know there are more of us than there are Bradys.

It bugs me that there are so few actual live Brady bunchers. They aren't a real organization with thousands of member. While we all know anti's how many of us actually are active dues paying members. They attack us buy using groups that should be pretty nuetral on the topic. The whole idea of a chamber of commerce attacking gun rights is pretty repulsive. We vote and pay for our DAs to enforce our existing laws, When they lobby using our own tax dollars against us, they need to be stopped.

Yep i agree. The whole chamber of commerce approach reminds me a lot of the OSHA (spelling) mess that cropped up a few months back. that was serious business and routed through some fairly unconventional channels. That kinda stuff scares me more than mainstream "ban guns" propaganda. I suppose it's just more insidious though. That's probably what bugs me more than anything.... like a giant assault against personal freedoms and civil liberties wrapped up with a giant bow that reads "Patriot Act". Makes me want to puke at times.

Contrary to what many may believe, Texas is a state that has alot of big business. We have the second largest state GDP in the country, have the 2nd largest economy in the country, and we are home to THE most companies on the fortune 500. We are also currently Republican biased, which tends to be very sympathetic to big business. So whenever a law is positioned that affects big business, our lawmakers are much more cautious to pushing it through without some significant support. Louisiana doesn't have the amount of big businesses Texas does, and as such doesn't have near the amount of pressure from business lobbyiests that our government has.


Oh, and keep and eye on that Bobby Jindal. I believe that Louisiana is going to be a springboard for him into the federal limelight. He hasn't been Louisiana govenor long, and has already been rumoured to be on Mc Cains VP list. He is young (30 something), very intelligent, and totally debunks the traditional "50 something white guy" Republican stereotype.

Yah he is very un-stereotypical, which is a good thing, he has also been very progressive in his conservative legislation and where he's leading LA, I think after Katrina everyone in LA found out that those particular Democrats did a horrible job then went out and elected the opposition, and they did a good job! I don't know if he will be McCain's VP, but next election or the one after you better be watching for him, because he's going be a barn-stormer.
