Tacical Carbine Class recommendations

#1

Post by Bang4Buck »

I'm in the Dallas area and getting serious about taking a good tactical carbine class. Any recommendations?

Tiger Valley outside of Waco and VX Marksmanship are both within 1.5 hours of me. Curious if anyone has feedback on these?

I have experience with and can definitely recommend either of these two instructors / schools. PM me if you want to discuss:

In Greenville area - http://www.criticaldefensegroup.com/

In McKinney area - http://txconcealedcarry.com/

Always fun to spend a day on the tactical range. We shot from various distances, stances & positions, practiced reloading and malfunction drills, transition to pistol, etc.,etc.

I think the next class in October is tactical shotgun :fire

I've been looking at Critical Defense for their handgun classes. About the closest I've found to my neck of the woods.

I'm not knocking any local training but I'd consider James Yeager with Tactical Response. They often travel to Texas and offer training.

https://tacticalresponse.com/
https://tacticalresponse.com/collection ... ting-rifle

They have a Fighting Rifle class among others.

I haven't taken any training with them but I would guess that for the same cost, his no nonsense training methods are as good or better than anyone else's despite his controversial personality.

I like people who speak in plain English and focus on training than those who focus more on trying to impress with their knowledge and use of industry jargon. ie. if I hear the phrase "Dynamic Critical Incident" I walk away

I would also recommend Reid Henrichs with http://www.valorridge.com/ but he does not travel to TX that I am aware of.

I have zero personal experience with Yeager and based on his Internet personality, I never will. Little nuggets of wisdom like "1911's are like strippers and Glocks are like fat girls" tell me everything I need to know about him.

I also have zero personal experience with him and I understand the sentiment towards him but from what I've seen and read I think his training methods are sound. YMMV. In a gun fight what's going to matter more, sound training or internet personality?

You can be the greatest gunfighter in the world, but if I can't stand you as a person then I'll take my chances (and my training budget) with one of the other guys.

At those prices, he would have to be MORE THAT TWICE AS GOOD as the well qualified professionals that we already have here in Texas. "rlol"

If you have no direct experience, while you may offer the contact info, an opinion on relative merit is inappropriate, IMHO.

Not all training is equal that's for sure. Buyer beware.

If you are in the Houston area there is http://www.360tacticaltraining.com/

Many course descriptions read "course covers the efficient use of a INSERT WEAPON TYPE HERE during a dynamic defensive encounter" The useless jargon is a red flag for me. I could only stand to hear it repeated only so many times. I heard a 360 tactical sales spiel during a gun seminar and while the sum total of their training might be just fine, getting through the repetitive tacticool jargon was painful.

Also the fact that there are way to many levels of small incremental and overlapping training is noteworthy (read the course descriptions). By the time you complete the pre-requistes classes to get to your skill level you spent a lot of money. Perhaps one 2 day class with one outfit is worth more than multiple classes with another.

I may still get training with 360 tactical, it's local and readily available.

But it's your training dollars, use them how you wish.

What kind of non sense is that?

When making a decision between two things you have no direct experience with you have to make a judgement call- which is an opinion on relative merit based on the information you have and what you value most.

You've never had to decide on option A or option B with no experience with either?
