Finally got an AR
Finally got an AR
My wife and I have both been around guns our entire lives, but I wouldn't consider myself a "gun guy". With much of what was happening a few years ago, I decided to buy a handgun...then a 2nd. My wife wasn't pleased with #2 until she shot it. Then she wanted one. Then we decided that, if we were going to get them, we wanted to get trained, get our CHL's, etc out of responsibility. But, she often said, "there is absolutely no reason for anyone to own one of those assault weapons."
Well, I bought a DPMS AR15 this weekend and she was even with me! I wasn't "allowed" to shoot it until she could go too. It took a while, but she finally came around.
This weekend was my first time shooting one. That thing is sweet!

Congratulations!
Now you need a shotgun.

Nice job. Good patience. Usually, most folks with good common sense will come around if not pushed.

Then it will be an AK 47, then an AR 10 ( or equivalent), who knows where it will stop. Don't even think about sporting clays.

Be careful, this is so true. I bought my M4 a couple years ago and at that time had no interest in a shotgun. Only 3-4 months later I bought a Benelli M2 3-gun model. I also have shot a few AR-10's and didn't think I would ever want one. I have passed up on a few really nice ones sold on this forum, but couldn't on one put up for sale about a month ago and got a really nice one from a friend and forum member. The only one of the above mentioned firearms I don't have yet is an AK. All I can say is that at this time I do not have any interest in one, but it looks like it may be inevitable and is only a matter of time.

Wait. Common sense? You clearly haven't met my wife. I would rather believe it was my charm and great physique.C-dub wrote:Nice job. Good patience. Usually, most folks with good common sense will come around if not pushed.
Shotgun? Sporting clays? Time to start working on a new goal. I see 3 gun tournaments in my future.

If you're in the DFW area, we've been known to get together and shoot skeet.

PawPaw I used to live in Frisco. I am in the Houston area now. But who knows. Hopefully I can join you sometime. I grew up hunting ducks and have shot skeet a couple of times so that would be a lot of fun.

We should do that again when it warms up a bit and stops raining/sleeting/snowing.PaJ wrote:PawPaw I used to live in Frisco. I am in the Houston area now. But who knows. Hopefully I can join you sometime. I grew up hunting ducks and have shot skeet a couple of times so that would be a lot of fun.

Re: Finally got an AR
PaJ, where in the Houston area are you? There are some excellent opportunities to learn and shoot. If you are up north of town, I might recommend Conroe Shooting Academy but there are certainly other options in other areas. If your wife enjoys shooting there are also several different ladies' groups around.

Working on my wife still. She is asking for her own handgun now so the ball is rolling.
