I've been looking at the Remington 700 bdl 30.06. I haven't decided which scope, but it will probably be a leupold. Any thoughts?

Consider also, a Tikka or Sako A7 for a value rifle consider Ruger American.

Don't see how you can go wrong.

I'm looking to get a wood stock in bolt action. I'm going to fancy it up a bit because my brother got me a very nice gun case for Christmas. I can't go to deer camp and open that case with a plain old rifle. It's got to match the case. I did look at the sako, but I think I've picked the rifle, just trying to figure what scope.

Get a nice upper mid-range Leupold for around $600-$700.

I'm not trying to open the caliber debate box, but I have the BDL in 25-06. I like it for two main reasons; most kill for the least kick and availability of supplies for reloading. If you don't reload than it may not be your best option. To be honest, I would rather have a ruger american in .270 or something along those lines as they have more features than the BDL and are STUPID EASY to give a trigger job. In fact, my room mates American made me jealous

Zeiss Conquest

I have the aac .308 version of that rifle and absolutely love it. I can't really advise on scope as I just have a cheapo on it right now. Of the ones I've been considering I really liked the zeiss tho.

Not to start a caliber war, but why the 30.06 and not .308Win? Just asking.

I'd look into Nikon. I've got a leupold VX III 3.5X 10x 50 and have s Nikon buckmasters and a monarch. Having had the Leupold for quite a while it's a fine sope but to me the buck masters are quite good for the money. Now that's just me. the others mentioned are all good scopes but for the money the buckmasters fill the bill for me. go take a look thru them and compare and decide. Enjoy your new deerslayer. I also have to Rem. a SS BDL 270 and SPS Tact. 308. I actually like the CDLs looks.

Can't go wrong with a Remington 700 or a Nikon!

I have this scope on my Tikka T3. I can lay 5-rds in same the hole at 100 yrds.

The scope is an accessory. Is it the Tikka T3, the scope or you?

fishman it doesn't matter how good the the gun looks in a good looking case if it don't shoot good. The high dollar price of gun does not neccessarily mean that it shoots well. A good looking wood stocked rifle is subject to the vagaries of weather concerning accuracy, unless you put more money into it to accurize it. Wood is subject to swelling and shrinking with humidity changes and will change your point of impact unless you free float the bbl and do a few other things to it. Synthetic stocked rifles are not subject to this as much.

Buy a synthetic stocked rifle from whatever company and put good rings and mounts topped by a good scope on it and shoot the heck out of it. Pay at least 60% to 75% cost of the rifle on the scope. More good rifles have been wasted by cheap scopes than cheap rifles ruined by expensive scopes.

Just my opinion from years of shooting and plenty of mistakes on my part.

I just took the 5-20x50mm off of my AR10 and mounted it on my Remington 700. For the price, SWFA scopes are hard to beat. The previous scope was a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x50 with a B&C reticle. Nothing wrong with it, but a friend really wanted to buy it for his dad for Christmas, and I wanted to change scopes (I'm going to sell the rifle the SWFA scope was mounted to previously). I prefer the SWFA, although it is noticeably heavier than the Leupold (it is also physically larger, which explains the added weight). But all of the shooting I've done with this rifle so far has been with the Leupold.

What he said. The rifle in the above pictures was purchased for $831.00 in 2007. The Leupold scope I mentioned above cost me $535.00 at the same time—an appropriate balance of price. The scope in the above pictures was purchased a couple of years ago for $1,500. The best groups I've ever shot in that rifle were shot with the cheaper scope (I haven't zeroed the new one yet) and have been in the 3/8" - 1/2" range. The synthetic stock is comfortable; I don't worry about dinging it up, and it has been rock solid stable in all conditions.
