My first black gun
My first black gun
Not the best picture, but my new toy just picked it up from a friend who put it together for me.

Why is the rear sight on backwards?

Sweet - looks like an RRA?
Also what kind of sights are those, they appear backwards but not sure what you're running

I will be completly honest I know hardly anything about these guns at the moment, its an RRA lower with a two stage trigger and a CMMG barrel, I will take a look at the sites when ever I get home because I am not sure what kind they are, but from looking down them I feel like they seem right, but what would I knowgigag04 wrote:Sweet - looks like an RRA?

Also the rear sight (in addition to being mounted backwards) is too far forward on the rail. Needs to mount as far back as it can, overhanging the little flat piece above the charging handle.zero4o3 wrote:I will be completly honest I know hardly anything about these guns at the moment, its an RRA lower with a two stage trigger and a CMMG barrel, I will take a look at the sites when ever I get home because I am not sure what kind they are, but from looking down them I feel like they seem right, but what would I knowgigag04 wrote:Sweet - looks like an RRA?

I'm no expert on these guns, but have owned a few and played around with them a lot. So take above with grain of salt - but I think others will back me upon this - has to do with where the sight is intended to be to get proper cheek weld and sight picture.
Also front sight would be better further forward, but looks like you only have a short (7-inch?) rail so probably best you can do.
Aside from the nitpicks, good-lookin' gun ... should be fun to shoot

I appreciate all the info, and plan on bringing some one who knows more about them with me once my ammo finally shows up, UPS let me down

You want those two sights as far apart as possible for a longer sight radius. I'd immediately get a longer rail to move the front site forward, and then do as mentioned and get that rear sight backward.

I was actually planning on putting optics on it and ditching the current sitesG192627 wrote:Everything he said and...austinrealtor wrote:Also the rear sight (in addition to being mounted backwards) is too far forward on the rail. If you do get rid of that fixed rear sight, I'll take it off your hands (been looking for one of those).zero4o3 wrote:I was actually planning on putting optics on it and ditching the current sites

Let me know when you get it. I'm about 1.5 hrs away. We can meet up and I'll show you around your rifle. Not sure want optics you have in mind but you can play with my aimpoint. I can probably snag an Eotech too.zero4o3 wrote:Pasadena/ houstongigag04 wrote:OP, where are you located?

Re: My first black gun
I have the RRA rear sight, front colapseable iron sight with the Eotech. Just because you have an Aimpoint or Eotech, I would still keep the manual sights as a backup (batteries and electronics can fail, iron sights won't)
Also, even with the front sight up, using the Eotech confirms what the iron sights are seeing. I live close if you would like to see how mine is set up.

of course, flip sights may serve your purposes better than fixed sights like you have now.
Lot of great optics options out there. eotech vs. aimpoint is like Ford vs. Chevy, Longhorns vs. Aggies etc.
Of course, if money didn't matter, I'd have a Trijicon ACOG on mine .... just can't seem to part with $1,000 plus for a fixed 4x optic though
