I luv my russian sks, Its was $119 when I bought it close to 20 years ago. came with 500 rounds of mil surp too. still have not used all of it. The one thing I found was it was accurate enugh to do the job.

I've always thought that the SKS is a pretty nifty little rifle, and I've always preferred it to the AK. The AK may the superior rifle. I don't know enough about them to say. But the SKS is the better looking of the two to me.

the old SKS design is one of the most user friendly designs ever put into production. With just your bare hands and a hard nose 7.62x39 round, you can strip down a Yogo to a pile of parts for "deep cleaning" in just a few short minutes (not considering the spring loaded bayo in the take down). Very reliable, moderately accurate, and heavy enough to use for a club on a buffalo. The bayo is pretty useful as a kick stand too

Not sure what the going rate is now, but having the original cleaning kit in the buttstock trapdoor used to add $25-30 to the value.

For $325, mine came with 180 rounds of brass cased, boxer primed Winchester 7.62x39 ammo, 12 stripper clips, two belt pouches, and a chest rig pouch. All matching serial numbers, and a cleaning kit in the trapdoor. Still has a bit of cosmoline that needs cleaning off. I expect my accuracy to improve drastically once I put the Tech Sights on there.

TAM, I've handled and fired an AK but it wasn't near as good a fit for me as the SKS was.

of the 2 systems I have more AK's (2) and (1) sks...
but I think the sks is a better system and more female friendly.
The siminov has better accuracy also...
the sks para is a very handy carbine!

on the sks slamfire is usually a product of a stuck firing pin via cosmoline in the fp hole...generally speaking but not always.

I had one sks with a slightly bent firing pin...never had a slam fire, but did experience a few light strikes. About $4 and a few minutes work and a new firing pin solved that problem. The sks is very simple to work on.

I have 2 SKS , Russian and Chinese. 1 AK, Chinese. I definately prefer the AK. Also with mine the accuracy of the AK is better.

Love my Yugo SKS.....
It's an excellent firearm that's build solidly and is super simple to clean.
Accuracy is very good for a firearm designed in it's timeframe, and there is a wide variety of ammo available for the 7.62x39 caliber, and is reasonably priced as well.
75 yds-open sights,12" target, 60 rounds, fired as quick as I could reacquire the sight picture:

It does it's job well.

Love the round but hated the lack of accuracy . . . sold mine and bought an AR in 6.8
was a lot of fun to shoot
