Howdy,

So I bought a spike's lower and I'm looking for an upper; please provide suggestions.

Things I want in the upper:
*Completely flat top - no triangle front sight.
*I am going to put an eotech and troy sights on it, if it doesn't already include that
*Lightweight
*16" M4 profile
*M4 feed ramps
*1:7 twist
*5.56
*Chrome lining
*All black furniture
*Must be ultra reliable
*going for the KISS method

I like this troy model, but I can't seem to find any reviews on it, although I know their sights/add on parts are high-quality. Does anyone have experience with this?

Troy Industries CQB A4 Special Purpose Carbine
Specifications:

* 5.56MM NATO w/ 1/7 twist or 6.8mm SPC w/ 1/10 twist
* 16" or 10.3" MP Inspected Barrel
* Ultra Reliable
* Professional Grade
* Weight: 4.0 lbs
* AVAILABLE IN BLACK AND FDE

Kit Includes:

* 1/7 Chrome Lined MP Barrel
* TROY Folding Battle Sights
* TROY 13.5" MRF-RX or 10" MRF-MX
* TROY Midieval Flash Suppressor
* TROY Low Profile Gas Block
* Tango Down Rail Panels
* Bolt, Carrier and Charging Handle
I'm also looking at the Spike's Tactical 16" M4 Cold Hammer Forged upper with Daniel Defense Lite rail:
Upper Specs-

-Spike's Tactical M4 flat top upper receiver, Machined from a 7075 T6 Mil-Spec Forging with Mil-Spec Type III Hardcoat Anodized finish, T-markings, our logo and M4 feed ramps.
-Barrel is Cold Hammer Forged 4150 Chromoly Vanadium Alloy, M4 barrel extention, Chrome chamber and bore, 5.56mm Nato chamber, 1:7 Twist, Magnetic particle testing on every barrel, Phosphate finish.
-M4 Profile with Carbine length gas system.
-Barrel is Phosphate finished under the F marked A2 front sight base OR Low profile gas block.
-The M16 carriers are Chrome lined with a Mil-Spec phosphate finish.
-Forged Mil-Spec carrier key, Chrome lined, attached with Grade 8 hardware and Properly staked.
-MP tested bolt, Each extractor is fitted with a Mil-Spec black insert and Mil-Spec Viton o-ring.
-Forged Mil-Spec Charging handle.
-M4 hand guards.
-A2 Flash Hider.
-9" rail
-Each upper also comes with an ST-T2 Heavy buffer.

Alternatively, I have heard very good things about BCM and might get one of those. Thoughts/Suggestions?

My price range is around $500 - $1400, including troy front/rear sights

Give Del-Ton a try. They built a custom upper for my latest AR project, did a great job.

Anything from LMT would be top quality and meet all your listed needs.

(Yes - I love this company)

Also check out Larue.

Since you already have a Spikes lower, I'd go with the Spikes upper. Their customer service is better than any of the competition. Plus you'll have a good chance of matching the finish of your lower.

Browse PKfirearms.com and see what they have. Anything on their site is in stock usually. If you can see it you can buy it.

The best upper for the money that I have found is Bravo Company. They also sell LMT and Noveske uppers at pretty good prices as well. A BCM upper should meet all your needs and it will not cost you a fortune.

Beware of the 1/7 twist barrel. Unless you plan on shooting high dollar ammo, like 65-77 grain rounds it is said that twist rate will not stabilize the lighter 55grn rounds enough to make nice groups. All I have is 1/8 on a LaRue 20" upper and 1/9 on all my others. There is a thread or two going now about accuracy questions on a 1/7 barrel and everyone has suggested to use heavier rounds to get better groups. 5.56 ammo is already pricey enough without having to buy premium or match ammo. If you want a paper puncher I think the 1/8 twist or 1/9 would be better suited for a range toy or match gun. If you want a single hole punch then the 1/7 would be ideal.

I was just about to post this about Will from Red Jacket Firearms. Tiger McKee just had him designed a KISS rifle. I think its called the Shootrite Katana. And like most people know if McKee designed it then it's gonna be good. And Will from Red Jacket is great at what he does. I have a couple of Aks that he built. I'm thinking about having him SBR and supress my S12. :coolgleamA:

I can't post a link from work but if anyone is interested I can post tonight

I hope this is not off your subject too far.I wounder why 1in 7 twist not 1 in 9 twist on barrel.Are you shooting full auto on your upper?If not you might have better accuracy with 1in 9 twist 16"M4 profile barrel by using common 55 gr or 62 gr bullet.
For 1 in 7 barrel,since you already have Spike lower,Spiker upper might be a better choice as far as color match plus the customer service is excellent at Spike.

I plan on shooting heavier grain ammo, but it should work fine even with M855.

here's a couple pages on why: http://ammo.ar15.com/ammo/project/perf_m193acc.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
