As the Years

Post by pistoleer44 »

go by, I have seen all sorts of rifles and calibers come and go. It seems they all work to some degree.

However, for some reason, my Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. keeps plugging along. Still dropping them out to 100 yards. I reload the 200gr Cor-lock Rem. bullet in front of IMR 4064 and am happy.

I'll pass on the magnums, thank you.

is there a newer caliber that you DO have an interest in or, if it ain't broke don't fix it?

Recit, LOL, now your making me think. Truth be told, I own other hunting rifles, Rem 70 BDL 270 win, Rem. 308 and a pre-64 Model 70 in 30--06. I have hunted with all of them and if I were living in the high country of Co or Ca., I would try out a 7mm or 300 win mag. Nothing wrong with them. Since I'm old and tired, content to sit in a blind and wait for a white tail or hog to come to me, I just keep grabbing the 35. Lite, very limited recoil and I favor lever guns anyway. :clapping:

My uncle is in his late 50's and started shooting a lever action .243 for hunting white tail and hogs also. He favors the lighter rifle and less recoil over the heavier and more dropping power of the 30-06 he was shooting. He was telling me its just more challenging because the shot placement is more important now instead of just dropping it like a rock with the 30-06. I can see the appeal with the lever guns, just I have never had tons of hands on time with one. Different strokes and different folks...He has invited me to exterminate hogs on his lease at the end of February. I am taking my AR and my CETME, so exterminating I will do. I want to take some long shots with open sights with my CETME and mow them down with my AR. He just laughed because a friend of mine is coming and him. He is going for lease maintenance and we are going just to shoot. He said shoot as many as we could b/c they have a problem on their lease and the guy that owns the property said he wants them gone. I am going to keep two small ones and give the rest away at the camp.
