Saiga 12 Converted

This is my Saiga defensive 12 gage, I installed the Tapco G2 double hook trigger set, Tapco folder stock, Tapco SAW grip, SaigaTech USA trigger guard, tactical light and cheap holo sight, it never malfunctions and shoots 2 3/4" and 3".

It's an AK chambered for 12Ga.

No Saiga sells the 12GA..it just takes a bit of modification to put the pistol grip and stock like that on it..the 12GA mags are expensive from what I hear

The 10 round mags are in the $60 range if you can find them, way more than they should be, and they're going up like everything else black gun related.

What kind of kick does it have? it is like a standard pump shotgun or softer like a semi-auto?.

Funny thing is it's much easier to shoot from the hip, that Tapco folder digs into my shoulder pretty hard. But to answer your question, it seems to kick less than a comparable pump and I assume that's because it's semi. But with 3" buck or #2's, it's pretty harsh. I leave it loaded with #4 2 3/4" for home defense.

Nice purchase those are awesome for blastin on ANYTHING. Looks like lots of fun. We shot a few pumpkins over Thanksgiving, and that would be perfect for pumpkin destruction!

I paid $600OTD, if I had bought a few months earlier, it would have been $500, now they're well above that if you can find one.

They are pretty cool guns. I don't have one but I did get to shoot one 2 weekends ago. The recoil is not as bad as a pump but it does recoil pretty good. Those are some cool mods you made.

I absolutely messed up by choosing to wait on getting a Saiga 12. I looked into it just about this time last year, and decided a Tromix custom would be in my future, specifically their #S06 with an AR-style adjustable stock (and Remmy Limbsaver) rather than the folder. But the backorders looked pretty long everywhere, so I decided to wait and order a new AR-10 first. Should just forked out the bucks and gone for both.

Now, getting your hands on any new Saiga 12 is looking darned difficult, much less a new one that's had all the tuning done for you. I'm too chicken to try to customize one myself, both gunsmithing and 922r stuff. Tromix has completely stopped taking orders for guns and parts until they dig through their backlog of over 700 firearms...they expect to start taking orders again in 2011. Gack!

Magazines seem to have doubled in price in just the past couple of months. And for a mere $230 you can get in line for a 2009 production run of MD Arms' 20-round drum...however, if I get the shotgun I'm pretty sure I won't be able to resist buying one of MD's drums, too (supposedly Surefire is supposed to start making one, also). Technically, I think they work to be either 20 in the drum or 19+ one in the pipe; don't think you can insert a fully-charged drum if there's a shell in the chamber. But heck, I guess 19+1 of 2 3/4 12 gauge will still work adequately when you go pheasant hunting.

I like my pumps, but I decided last year an auto-loading shotgun was in my future. I like the fact that the Saiga is essentially the same manual-of-arms as an AK.
