Remington Recall

I have heard that there is a recall on Remington Model700s and Model 7s. It is supposed to cover those made between 2006 and the present and is because of a faulty trigger. I don't have any other details yet but if you have one of those models in those years, you probably should do some checking.

Good thing I got rid of the awful X-Mark Pro in my 700 right after I got it. Replaced it with a Timney and never looked back.

I've avoided buying Rem products for years due to their lack of action on this (and prior) issues.
Rem has been aware of this (and prior models) for much longer than 2006.
Deadly despicable.

What if someone... um... "modified" their trigger already? What would happen if they sent it back?

I have .308 tactical SPS with the Rem. police stock I got from a friend cheap. Its made by HS Precision with the full length aluminum bedding block. I t now has the XMP trigger set to around 2 1/2#. doesn't break consistently there. So the recall got me ordering Timney trigger ,,which is what I've been wating to do. Trigger is on it's way.

I couldn't get the XMP trigger set below 3lbs and it was always very inconsistent, varying by as much as 1/2lb per trigger pull. It wasn't terribly creepy or bad feeling, just not light enough and inconsistent.

I checked it today and it was going from 2 1/4 to almost 2 3/4# . never had any trouble with it but I now realize why I had to pull a little harder at time s. It passed the butt slam test but I didn't really slam it on the floor. No worries now Timney on the way.

My serial number is on the recall list, and my trigger has been gone through and lightened. It now has a 2-1/2 lb pull and is absolutely sweet. My last recall experience is too recent (XDS), and I'm not going to send this rifle in. Being a left-handed rifle, who the heck knows how long this one would take? Instead, I've just ordered a new Timney trigger from Brownells. Plus, I have no intention of ever selling this rifle anyway.

What I don't understand is why Remington finally decided to recall these triggers after having so vigorously defended them several years ago. The alleged problem isn't news. In every case, they were able to demonstrate that the users whose guns discharged unintentionally were actually negligent and used the product in a way it was not designed for and was specifically warned against.

HOWEVER: this image is taken from the Remington website (http://www.remington.com/pages/news-and ... seven.aspx). My rifle has the trigger on the left and should not therefore be subject to the recall. But when I plug my serial number into the form on the remington.com page (http://xmprecall.remington.com/), IT TELLS ME THAT MY RIFLE IS SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. So one of two things is happening: 1) either the image provided by Remington is incorrect, or 2) Remington has decided to cover ALL 700s made in this period, regardless of trigger model.

I have already ordered a replacement Timney trigger from Brownells, and I have no intention of ever reselling this rifle, so whether the recall concerns my rifle or not, it doesn't really affect my ownership of the rifle. I'm NOT sending it in, and I AM changing the trigger. HOWEVER, if your trigger looks like the one on the left, you might want to telephone Remington BEFORE initiating the recall process and find out what the deal is. Your rifle MAY or MAY NOT be actually subject to recall.

My son helped me mount the Timney trigger, and we set it to 2 lb 4 oz (average of five pulls, on a Lyman digital trigger gauge). Breaks like a glass rod, with zero creep. My OEM trigger had been gone through and was pretty good for OEM, but this trigger is a revelation. I'm going to get one for my AR.
