Can I get a rain check on that deal? I would enjoy bringing my M1 out with you and yours, but it will have to be another time. The daughter and I just spent the day at the range yesterday doing handgun and rifles and Sunday I'm going to play some 5-stand. I gotta take tomorrow and get some things done around the house or 5-stand will be out.

At 100 yards, my first time, I hit the bulls eye once and the ten ring two more times with the M1 in 8 shots. Really liking that rifle. After a little more familiarity with it I'll enter some of those service rifle matches. I's going to try and push it out to 200 yards in a couple weeks.
Sure! No way this will be my last time to go out there. I blame you (just a little bit) for making me buy the M1! ;-)
That's right.

Well, wait until you get it out and see how well that 70 year old rifle does. I can't really say which rifle is more fun to shoot, my M1 or M4. They're just different.

Mine is not quite that old. It's just a baby at 59 years old.

It's a Harrington & Richardson, made in 1954, going by the serial number. Today, while doing a good clean & lube, I discovered the barrel is marked H&R 1-55. I guess it's the original barrel and it looks good and bright.

I may be interested. My brother is in town and I love to bring out some of my toys for sighting, testing and adjustment. I will check with my bro if he is willing to get up too early.

Private, in the sense it is not own by the government. Pay the entrance fee for the owner and you are good to go.

Hope you guys stay cool. Drink plenty of water. I wish I could join you. IMarmie Kat and I are Mansfield watching three little girls while their Mommy and Daddy vacation in TAM's native kountry (Monterrey and Nap Valley) I thought about bringing my shotgun or a rifle to make a quick trip to Alpine, but she who must be obeyed said I'd be too busy with the girls. Turns out she was right. The closest I came to a gun was buying another Marlin bolt action .22 on Gunbroker. Have Fun!

Let me get back to you. That's mighty tempting. I have to check with She Who Shall Not Be Obeyed to make sure it's OK. She's recovering from shoulder surgery and still needs some help around the house here and there. Going that far is a bigger time commitment than Elm Fork. Anyway, I'll get back to you.
Don't you mean "She Who MUST Be Obeyed"? :headscratch

Either way, that makes sense. I hope she continues to recover quickly.

I plan to be there at 9:00 AM so I can finish before it gets too hot.

The offer still stands to anyone else that is interested!
Oh geeze, yes that's what I meant! "rlol" I started to write "She Who Shall Not Be Denied," realized that's not what I meant to write, and went back and changed Denied to Obeyed and forgot to change the rest!

I must have missed the face that Pawpaw made?

You guys sound like a lot of fun. Wish we lived closer.

Pawpaw used to have a picture of himself making that face as his avatar. He graced me with it the first time we met. I nearly peed I laughed so hard.

TAM,
PAWPAW,
Andy-C

and Myself, and whoever is interested should plan to get out our long range toys and put some lead down the lanes on some plates. It would be an outing to hone our shooting skills dealing with wind and worthy a lunch thereafter. I hope we can do it by September when the weather is enjoyable again.

Let us do it. :smash: :smash:

That sounds like a great idea. Count me in! I'm off work on Fridays & Saturdays.

Of course, none of you guys joined me, so I just visited with everyone else that was there!

First I dialed in the RM04 (mini yellow dot) on my AR as well as I could. It's hard to be pinpoint accurate at 100 yards with a 4 moa dot. :grumble

Then I tested some expen$ive Norma ammo I bought when I couldn't get the Fiocchi my rifle seems to like so much. It looks like it will do as a fair substitute.
When I went to put the AR stuff away & set up to shoot the Garand... my range bag had gone AWOL from under my bench!!! :blowup

One of the ROs was able to find someone who could track down the guy who grabbed it by mistake (From under MY bench???). He thought it was his buddy's bag.

That took an hour out of the day, just waiting on my gear to be brought back. No, I controlled my anger without any cussin' & fussin', but it wasn't easy. What I really wanted to do was introduce him to my friend Dan... Dan Wesson, that is. :fire

After that, I couldn't get any accuracy out of the Garand or the Carbine. Whether it was the rifles or me remains to be seen. As hard as I tried to put it behind me, I'm still a bit ticked off.

xb12s, this is just for you. Remember... you asked for it!!! :biggrinjester:

And I thought I had it bad with a 2 moa dot. My dot completely covered the black 10" area on the target at 100 yards.

In reality, it's only intended to be a short range device. It sits on top of my ACOG as a sort of heads-up display.

I wanted it sighted in at 100 yards so the bullet never travels above the dot. A low miss is more useful than a high miss in a "problem arises" scenario. By sighting it in for 100 yards, the bullet starts off about 4" low and rise to POA at 100 yards, where it begins to fall. It shouldn't be 4" low again until somewhere between 250 & 300 yards.

I like my setup because I have full use of all 3 sighting systems; the RM04, ACOG, & iron sites (through a "tunnel" through the mount). The best part is that there are no batteries in the scope or the dot, but they will both work all the way down to complete darkness.

Here's a picture of my setup.
