heres my project and finally could finish this firearm after a few years of other expenses, sporter75, 7.62x39 with black laminate wood furniture, with a Guntec aluminum side mount, and a decent red dot for its price, barska red dot.

...the pad on the folding stock looks good...any more uncomfortable to shoot that one than the wooden stock? Looks like a much better way to carry in car/truck than full length...is the Yugo one of the better brands???

Better.... that depends who you ask. It's certainly a very good-quality rifle, but it's probably most famous for its heavier, bulged front trunion (to better handle the punch from firing rifle-grenades); that long bulge at the upper front of the receiver is quite distinctive, as is the locking button at the rear of the receiver to lock the top-cover in place. The extra meat at the front makes it stronger than the average AK - but the Yugo has certain parts that are peculiar to itself and no other AK, so one has to do some research before blindly buying any old AK part.

All the parts are finally in (with the exception of a couple of compliance-parts such as pistol-grip and piston), so I should be assembling this puppy soon. I'll definitely take pics of the progress during the build itself.

I'm curious as to what you will use to buck the rivets down. Do you happen to be in possession of a hydraulic press, or access to one? That's pretty much what stops me from building an AK. I'm just not sure what I would use to accomplish that and get it right.

And if you build, go with the Nodak receivers. I built on on an IO and it had issues. Finally worked it all together, but it takes a bit more hammer work.

When I did my AK several years back (not a build from scratch, but I replaced virtually everything that originally came on it), I used the ACE receiver block & FSM. What made you decide to go with the Stormwerkz FSM over the ACE FSM?

I took the advice of various friends who have built a fair number of AKs, and their common agreement was that the Stormwerkz has a more solid lockup than the Ace version.

Added an Ergo pistol-grip and Tapco single-hook trigger mechanism to bring the US-made 922r compliance-parts to the required 6:

NDS-5 receiver
Ace Stock
Ergo PG
Tapco trigger/disconnector/hammer (3 parts)

Nailing it all together this coming Saturday morning - can't wait

I've been really happy with my ACE FSM, but then the Stormwerkz one wasn't available when I set up my AK. I like that the Stormwerks FSM has a locking lug for the open and closed positions.
