Just got my first AR!!

Post by brainman »

So someone gave me my first AR for Easter! Got a Bushmaster xm15 e2s 16" with A3 handle. I'm totally excited.

Anything I need to know before I take her out for a spin?

Take it apart and clean it. Lube it up and go shoot it. Put 100 or so rounds through it before trying to shoot it real fast. During that first 100 rounds pull a boresnake with some Hoppe,s or other cleaner through it every 10-20 rounds. You can also use a cleaning rod but clean from the breech to keep stuff out of the action. After shooting give it a thorough cleaning and lubing to be ready for the next time.

Collect your brass in case you decide to reload .223 or know someone who does. I put 200 rounds through mine before deciding I wanted to reload. I had to buy more factory ammo because I didn't save my spent cases.

Grats on your new acquisition. Lube it up and let er rip is my opinion on new guns unless its a precision bolt action rifle you are trying to achieve max accuracy from.

The only thing I can add is get ready to spend money on it. Ammo is just part of it next thing you know you will be spending money on optics, rails, lights, mags and other things you really don't need but looks cool.

Thanks, guys. It wasn't really "for" Easter as much as it was given on Easter. Either way, I wasn't expecting it and it was VERY generous.

I told my wife now I don't have to keep saving up to buy one. She said, "why? I want one too."

I hear ya on the accessories. I'm already eyeing a bunch of stuff. Just so yall know, I stopped at Academy today; they have Remington .223 20 rd boxes for several dollars less than cheaperthandirt, but they have pmag magazines for several dollars more. Guess it pays to shop around.

Check 44Mag for Pmags. They have 30 round for $14.20 each and 20 round for $13.25 free shipping on all Magpul mags and accessories.

Very nice. Congratulations!

I'm still shopping for my first one. My birthday is coming up in May and then there's Father's Day in June and the election in November, so I still have a couple of excuses in the near future.

Nope! Shoot on! :fire
One minor tip:
DO NOT dry fire it when the upper and lower are separated (like when cleaning or w/e) UNLESS you put a finger in front of the hammer.

Got the new girl out today!! Awesome. Even with iron sights, that thing is sooooo sweet to shoot.

Now I need to find some money for accessories.
