Long Range "Class"...Kentucky Windage Master!

About two weekends ago, I attended a small class on the subject...

Went in with an open mind to regain some of the mindset I thought I might have lost over the years...

I took the stock Remington 700 (.308) and about 150 rounds and got to work...

Basically it was a great class taught by a very knowledgable veteran who owns his own business here in the Houston area...

We all gathered a a private range called the Cawthon Cartridge Club, it is southwest of College Station near a little town called Millican, Texas...

Good classroom, bathroom facilities, the ranges are very dynamic...Not just your usual straight and level lanes...

Of course I have not tacticool'd my Remington enough to allow for MOA or Mil adjustments as I have a sportsmans scope on this particular rifle at this time, so I have to nail the 100 yard to a very nice grouping, and go from there...

The course realy made me take into account the wind calls needed as we had full winds at some times during the shoot that day...We shot at 12x12 plates from 200 to 400 yards, and one big 20" round clanger at 500 yards...Then we proceeded to have the targets reset, and calculate our own ranges as the final stage...

The other guys had these 6.5's and .308's with mil-dot optics and about 5 of the 8 of us had suppressors...Very nice...Still those guys popped at about the decible level of a .22, it still was very interesting to see how well those cans worked...I am considering going that route on either mod'ing my existing .308, or just getting an entire new build to the nines...

Not bad for a guy (me) for doing what they could do with simple adjustments on their scopes...My hits ceertainly brought a new confidence in what I've been able to do over the years...

I highly recommend getting plugged into this guys classes if you are interested...I believe it is well worth the cost and time...

I recommend a good bolt action like the Remington 700, in .308, with a Leupold or Nightforce scope on top...With a good bipod, you will be nailing plates well beyond where we shot that day...The second phase of this class is 500-1000 yards...

The class does run some $$$, but consider it a good investment, take notes, and have fun most of all...
