Dove Season is a Comin'

Any good public dove hunting in the Conroe area. I have seen numerous large covies flying over the football field while my son practices.

Here in Amarillo I would have better luck with my pellet gun on the back porch then trekking out to the farm. That being said the 870 will still be going to the tailwater pit a few times. Last year we had better luck after Christmas That was a fun hunt the ol combo Pheasant/Quail/Dove day. The dove are hard to clean when you hit them with #4 shot just be forewarned.

Lookin' forward to it! I use a Franchi 12 gauge semi with 71/2 shot at 1 1/8 oz. What do y'all use for chokes? My average shot is 30 yards... Any ideas would be appreciated...

Should be good huntin as dry conditions are good for dove hunting. Hunt near water, bring lots of water to drink and try to stay in the shade. For those of you who use hunting dogs, be extra careful not to overheat the dogs. They will go till they drop, seen it happen and it's real ugly. Happy hunting.

Sunflowers planted on my dad's farm, and all I need is my hunting license and a few boxes of shells. I am more than ready!!

yeah, the dry conditions late in the summer may be good, particularly if you have that water still available. My lease is in an area where none of the seed crops even survived due to early drought (so I've been told), and the late spring, drought caused wildfires burned off much of the native vegetation. Not much surface water made it through July either. But, you are 100% right about setting up camp near the water holes. I still figure our best option on our lease is the barren pasture near the city water plant. Hopefully they have water . Otherwise, I'm afraid we'll be sitting in flyover country this year.

Who knows... maybe this year a patch of East Texas goatweed may be a better play than the 300 mile trip to the "West side".

Be hunting over a dry tank in a hay field blackend by wildfire in Junction. I guess I'll use my 28 gauge Remington 1100 Skeet B since I won't have to buy but one box of shells.

I'm ready to go. I bought some shells last weekend for my Remington 870, and ordered my 2011-2012 hunting license online from TPWD.

I'll be hunting on my parent's ranch in Fannin County. They have a couple of stock tanks that I am hoping will see some action from doves.

I even bought me one of those "Mojo Dove" decoys...never used one before but I've heard good things.

I'm totally depressed about this hunting season. The private land I hunted deer, alligator, ducks, and varments on is being leased out to someone by the new owner. For 7 years the original owner let me hunt it for doing small favors for him like fixing gates and fences, taking him and his friends out on alligator hunts, and just giving him phone call reports about his property and anything that seemed amiss.

Well about a year and a half ago he passed away (84 yrs.) and his daughter got the property. Last year I took her friends and her on alligator hunts, took one of the family out deer hunting (shot a doe during archery) and basically did the same for her as I did for her Dad.

I got a phone call from her 2 months ago and she told me she was leasing the property to a hunting club in the area that takes people on guided hunts. It was great while it lasted but......

That stuff happens. Many years ago, we had a good place in deep east texas until someone come along and offered some crazy amount. It is getting tougher for the average guy.
