Re: AR15 Pistol
I didn't get an AR pistol but decided on the Kel Tec .223 pistols. The buffer tube and weight were the main factors along with price.
If you are going to build or buy one go into it as something you’re getting for the fun of it. They don't really fill any one roll well except for burning thru ammo on a fun shoot. They can be used for hunting, home defense, car carry or whatever but there are better guns for all those rolls. I recommend a SBR AR or AK if you’re looking for something really useful. Not being able to shoulder those big pistols is a disadvantage. Not being able to put a forward grip on them is a disadvantage. They are decent for hunting out to maybe 100 yards but a rest is necessary for me out beyond 50 yards. If you can afford the time and money I again suggest a SBR over one of those pistols. If you just want something fun you will find other uses for then go the pistol rout. That is my opinion.

I don't have any issues shouldering a buffer-tube AR pistol, and a Magpul AFG works great on them.shootthesheet wrote: Not being able to shoulder those big pistols is a disadvantage. Not being able to put a forward grip on them is a disadvantage.

Nope. Multiple letters from the ATF have confirmed that AFG's are not vertical foregrips and thus do not constitute an NFA firearm.Carry-a-Kimber wrote:AOW??MadMonkey wrote:I don't have any issues shouldering a buffer-tube AR pistol, and a Magpul AFG works great on them.shootthesheet wrote: Not being able to shoulder those big pistols is a disadvantage. There are more, but I can't locate them on AR15.com. I've seen them in the AR Pistol section though.
Also in the AK pistol section as well.

IDK, that letter is to a specific person from the BATF; and is not law. The BATF is notorious for going back on approvals given in letter form that aren't specifically laid out in the law. Just my 2 cents.
