Good Price for a Stripped Lower??

#1

Post by texanron »

I'm going to build a AR starting with a stripped lower purchased at the gun show in Houston later this month. I'm looking for input on what I can expect to find and what is a reasonable price. I'm looking at Spikes, Rock River, etc.......This will be my first build.

If I may, my suggestion is to skip the gun show and call Essential Arms on Tuesday. They have the lowest price I've been able to find, and the quality is fine. I've got 1 completed AR with one of their lowers, and I'm collecting parts for a precision AR with a matched upper/lower from essential.

Aimsurplus.com is usually one of the best sources. They are sold out of Spikes lowers right now (usually sell for $79.95):

http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx? ... arch=lower" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

However for $59.95 they have:

http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx? ... arch=lower" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Of course you pay shipping (~$10) and FFL fee (~$15), so you are closer to $85 out the door with it.

Spikes are great bang for the buck especially if you have a RLL or RDIAS thanks to the low shelf. I imagine that you don't though since you are looking at saving money on a lower and LL's go for 6-7k right now and DIAS's are twice that. I would spend a little more and get a Rock River. There are pretty cheap still ($120) and match it to a RRA upper and you will have a tight fitting AR.

SOG Armory was selling some generic lowers for $99, and their own branded lowers (made by that same manufacturer) for $109 at the last Ft Worth show I went to.
