ADMINS - Be aware of new members

Like many here, after the forum went down I started moving over to other forums. Of course none are as good as this one (in my humble opinion). One forum that I’m not a huge fan of had quite a few members who were really dissing this one. (Very immature). A few who claimed they were kicked off this one. Anyway to my point. There was talk of some of those registering here just to see how far they could go before getting kicked out. Stuff like that just irritates me to no end. I’m here to learn, share and maybe even help if I can. No time or patience for that silliness. Anywho just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. We have had trolls and troublemakers in the past, but luckily they have been few and far between.
Will keep our eyes open,

I did a search to see if I could find out what happened to this site. And ended up registering for another site. Visited it once, and although I appreciated this site before, I have a much greater appreciation of it now. I too saw quite a bit of bashing of this site and Mr Cotton. Seemed to be from folks who felt that they were slapped with a heavy hand, but seeing their behavior in that forum I can fully understand why they would have been.
I for one appreciate the decorum that's demanded from this site.

I tried that one, too.... I was out within about 10 minutes of their egos and cussing.

I wouldn't have gone back even if this one didn't come back.

Like a bunch of whiny kids, they were!

Its always a fine balance between recruiting new people and recruiting the right people.
There are tons of knowledgeable shooters and instructors on TexasCHLforum... which separates it from other areas of the internet where people are a legend only in their own mind.

I saw the same thread and it turned me off, indeed. There is no need for bashing, even for the perpetually butt-hurt.
This site is a model that other forums should hope to emulate.

The moderation on this site has been excellent, and it fosters debate that is focused upon the topic. Internet debates are famous for their rapid descent into ad hominem attacks, and the moderation on this forum actually keeps that in check. I've disagreed on sensitive topics and even with Mr. Cotton, but I have never felt pressure to keep my views in check. We ALL feel pressure to keep our conversations civil, and that's the point.

This site is a model that other forums should hope to emulate.
This ain't your daddy's internet:
Types of Malicious Bots:
Spam Bots: This type of bot spiders the Internet for the purpose of collecting data from forms that have been filled out online, spreading advertisements and pop-ups throughout the Internet, and collecting email addresses for the purpose of spamming.
Hacker Bots: Hackers use this type of bot to crawl around the Internet and find vulnerabilities in websites and online applications so they can exploit them for malicious purposes.
Botnets: Botnets are networks that hackers set up online by using "zombie" computers to perform malicious acts such as denial of service attacks. Zombie computers are computers that have been taken over by the hacker without the knowledge of the PC owner....
Bots drove nearly 40% of internet traffic last year — and the naughty ones are getting smarter
This is a admittedly a startling number, but it actually represents a welcome decrease on last year’s figures.
Sock puppet account: The use of the term has expanded to now include other misleading uses of online identities, such as those created to praise, defend, or support a person or organization, to manipulate public opinion
Strawman sockpuppet
A strawman sockpuppet (sometimes abbreviated as strawpuppet) is a false flag pseudonym created to make a particular point of view look foolish or unwholesome in order to generate negative sentiment against it. Strawman sockpuppets typically behave in an unintelligent, uninformed, or bigoted manner and advance "straw man" arguments that their puppeteers can easily refute. The intended effect is to discredit more rational arguments made for the same position.[12] Such sockpuppets behave in a similar manner to Internet trolls.
A particular case is the concern troll, a false flag pseudonym created by a user whose actual point of view is opposed to the one that the sockpuppet claims to hold. The concern troll posts in Web forums devoted to its declared point of view and attempts to sway the group's actions or opinions while claiming to share their goals, but with professed "concerns". The goal is to sow fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) within the group.
Meatpuppet
Some online sources use the term "meatpuppet" to describe sockpuppet behaviors. For example, according to one online encyclopedia, a meat puppet "publishes comments on blogs, wikis and other public venues about some phenomenon or product in order to generate public interest and buzz"—that is, he/she is engaged in behavior more widely known as "astroturfing"
The threat is real and my thanks to the mods for all their efforts in handling this new world we are in.
