I was waiting to check out. The clerk finished with the couple in front of me. Then, instead of reaching for his card, he began to give the clerk green colored pieces of paper. To my amazement, she accepted them and allowed them to leave with the merchandise.

My wife give is still amazed that I prefer to carry cash... she's been a debit carder for 25 years. Many checker's eyes get big when they see cash being handed to them. ...lol Some surprise me that they give correct change... although most count it out twice before handing it over.

I was in a Dollar General store earlier this week and they had signs saying the cashiers could not give back cash or coins. You can pay with card or exact amount in cash.

Supposedly it was due to a shortage of coins and $1 bills.

I saw a similar sign at Taco Cabana drive through. Their sign said exact change only. No coin change can be given. They told me the same story about a coin shortage. I wonder if this makes a bucket of nickels, dimes and quarters worth more than face value?
