I'm setting up a new laptop. I used Chrome on the old one, but I'm trying to distance myself from Google.

Any and all recommendations are welcome.

Over the years I've found Firefox to be a great browser.... Lots of extensions available and you can create an account so that if you put it on multiple PC's it will carry your favorites, history, etc if you so desire...

Firefox + DuckDuckGo for search engine

Edge Chromium... you can try and distance yourself from google, but you won't be able to. DuckDuckGo is basically farming out searches to Google... you can try TOR, a VPN etc... but at the end of the day, you're tracked, known and recorded.

I've worked on one of the top 10 web sites for the past 22 years. You would be astounded how much is known about you not just on the web but in life as a whole... EVEN if you use 100% cash, we can track your purchases in the physical world in minutes, as can all retailers and law enforcement, it's very easy.

I know it's not possible to completely get away from Google. It's more of a personal protest over their more recent actions pertaining to the election.

I used Firefox before I moved to Chrome. I finally got tired of the Firefox problems that seemed to be bothering all FF users, but Mozilla wouldn't even acknowledge that there WAS a problem.

Bing seems like it might be a good option for a search engine.

I'm using Edge right now and every time I post on this forum, I get a PHP error. I have to go back & refresh to see that my post did, indeed work.

Lack of predictability -- it's a feature.

Agreed. Firefox has been my favorite since it was called Netscape. Recommended extensions:

• Addblock Plus - blocks adds and pop-ups
• NoScript - blocks scripts unless you enable them

Steve Sailer did some tests and found https://www.yippy.com/ and duckduckgo to be the least biased search engines.

Another vote for Firefox and Duckduckgo.

firefox, but on some TEXAS.gov websites firefox goes full monty on restricting pop ups or the like when you pay for your vehicle registration or things of that nature. so i use edge just for texas.gov sites. have no idea why firefox does thsi even with add blocker turned off on those websites

Dissenter #1, Brave #2 and Duckduckgo for sure. Firefox is my third choice. Edge next. Opera next.
