Unfortunately this article doesn't do the greatest job of explaining the airman's deeds, but it's worth noting his actions.
Air Force Tech Sgt. Michael Perolio was a joint terminal attack controller attached to a Special Forces unit when the solo vehicle he was in was fired upon by supposedly friendly Afghan militia using a PKM (a light machine gun that fires 7.62x54R mm rounds). The unit leader (US Army captain), an Afghani interpreter, and a militia leader in the same vehicle were wounded, some quite badly. The JTAC called for a quick reaction force and called in an airstrike that took out 12 bad guys and silenced the machine gun. He was credited with extracting the three wounded, two of whom survived.
