Obamacare Fines For Not Signing On

Is the practice of fining for not signing up for Obamacare ongoing?
Was it ever implemented?
I know lots of folks who didn't sign up and as yet none that I know of have been fined.
With the new President and other Conservatives elected, will the idea of fining for not buying Obamacare simply die or does it go on (either in practice or theory) until something legislatively is done?
Anyone know?
Thanks!

You pay the fine when you do your income taxes. I believe it was in effect for 2015. At least I know that I was asked the question when I used TurboTax to complete my return.

For 2016, the fee is $695 or 2.5% of your income — whichever is higher

Basing the fee on income levels makes it clear that this was never about making sure that people don't just wait until they get sick to sign up for coverage.
Do we have any specifics on Trump's plans for replacing the Unaffordable Care Act? I have heard him say that he wants to keep the requirement for covering pre-existing conditions, and insurance for kids up to 26, but I haven't heard anything else. I sure hope he is able to get rid of the mandate, since I believe it is unconstitutional. I'm just not sure how you keep pre-existing conditions and get rid of the mandate without sending premiums up even higher than they are now.

When asked the question on Turbo Tax I said I had insurance all year. I have never lied on taxes until last year to avoid being penalized. Obamacare would have cost me nearly half my income when I was only working part-time so I had to go without. I'm not paying a penalty because I couldn't afford insurance.

Exactly. Nothing that I have heard so far. The mandate is what just makes me mad. I have never gone without insurance but to make me HAVE to purchase a product just because I am alive! Really burns me up!

Yep. That works so well for people like my sister who dont make enough that a tax rebate helps. Just more money out of her pocket and she still doesnt have insurance.

Lol. I called a CPA friend and asked them what I should. He suggested to answer yes to the question.

You didn't have to lie. If it would have truly cost you that much of your earnings you would have been exempt.

I do wonder if the IRS has been used for compliance?
Any here have any anecdotes regarding the above?
I'm going to guess millions and millions of citizens have not enrolled in O.C. nor have they paid a penny in fines.
What say you?
