Calling all "Texperts", where is this?

Need the help of the forum/ my fellow Texans.

We have RV'd a bunch of times from Fort Worth to Port Aransas and have passed through a small town in between here and there that I would like to go back to but can't remember the name. It is a small town with a metal arch style bridge that goes over a river that isn't typical for Texas. The river is almost set in a gorge and has homes on the bluffs on each side. I really want to go boating on that river this summer.

If you know what route you took you can go to Google Earth to look for the area by drilling down. There is a metal span bridge on 281 S over the Guadalupe just north of Bulverde, but that's not on the route between FW and Port Aransas.

Unfortunately we have only run across the town twice in our travels. IIRC correctly it is about 1/2 between the two as we usually stop there to walk the dog/eat.

Were you on I-35 most of the route, or more likely, US281.

The only town I can really think of is Ganado (Northeast of Victoria), or maybe Rosebud. Do you remember if you went through Houston, or Waco and hit 77, or Austin and San Antonio? I only ask maybe to jog your memory a little bit. Maybe through Houston to go down the coast, Waco which would be a pretty much straight shot down 77, or stay on 35 down through Austin and San Antonio maybe for some cool rest stops and attractions?

Bulverde is taking over the entire area. A lot of folks are not laughing, though! Especially Spring Branch.

Steveincowtown; check out where Highway 183 crosses the Guadalupe River in Cuero; metal arch type bridge, little more than half way, though....

With not much more to go on than your description, it will probably be very difficult to pinpoint a particular bridge. Texas has lots of rivers, creeks, and metal arched bridges. Also a lot of small towns.

Sounds like La Grange... The old metal suspension bridge on 77 has been replaced with a modern bridge but there is still a metal bridge like the one you describe on the Business 71 Route. The Colorado runs through there and it is a fairly deep gorge with some homes on the hills and bluffs above it...

If I were driving from Fort Worth to Port A, I would take IH 35 to San Antonio and from there take IH 37 south. The question is where you would cut over to the east. You're unlikely to encounter metal-arched bridges on the interstate.

I would probably cut over just south of Mathis, but then you wouldn't likely encounter any significant bridges. If you took IH 37 all the way to Corpus Christi, you'd see the Harbor Bridge. Could that be it? It's a lot farther along than half way.
