Another reason not to live in Austin.
City Council looks to regulate BBQ smoke. May effect back yard grilling. Rush Limbaugh thinks it a plan to further feminize men in Austin.

Austin's not just weird, they're idiots.
Pinellas County Florida has a similar ordinance and someone shared a video of an environmental enforcement agent serving a complaint notice. I think it was on Facebook and I don't know how to post anything from their site. All the BBQ restaurants in and around Austin should form an alliance and confront the council, post notices in the newspapers and they and homeowners start lawsuits if it passes. BBQ is a large part of the pursuit of happiness whether it's restaurant style or of the back yard variety.
I'd like to know how many people keep their windows open in Austin. Of course there's the possibility that many of the council members do keep theirs open and have baked their brains.
I found a link, but there is some language that would be inappropriate in the video. If any one is interested just Google "Pinellas County, Florida BBQ Smoke Complaint Video"

The proposed ordinance was removed from the table and the council is no longer perusing it.

Perusing? How about pursuing?

Humans have been cooking with fire for centuries - why is this suddenly an issue?

Because the "Keep Austin Weird and Full of Delicious Food" crowd is angering the "I just moved here from California and I want to make this place the same as there" crowd are fighting again. Guess who has more people in the City Council?

It is the “professional journalist” that got it wrong in the article.

With normal people "perusing" could have been accurate, but I think the Austin council is part of the political tribe of "we have to pass it to find out what is in it," so, yeah, that has to be a mistake.
