Individuals who hold a commercial driver license (CDL) may have their CDL disqualified for a specified amount of time if they are convicted of certain offenses. A list of the most common types of convictions with the disqualification period is provided in the table below.

NOTE: An individual may also be disqualified from operating a commercial motor vehicle if the CDL holder has been convicted of certain types of moving violations in their personal vehicle. For more information on those types of violations and other CDL rules, please visit Texas Transportation Code 522.081.

Alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident or commission of a felony
At least one year

Alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident or commission of a felony while operating a commercial motor vehicle placarded for hazardous materials

Two serious traffic offenses (i.e. excessive speeding, reckless driving, improper or erratic lane changes, following too closely, etc.) within three years

First, I am not sure a red light camera ticket even shows up on your driving record. And, you could probably fight it since you got stopped and get it dismissed.

However, looking at the list above if your previous ticket was 5 months (150 days) ago, then you shouldn't have an issue anyway. I would see what comes of it and if the city sends you a ticket. If they do you can see how/if it shows up on your driving record or not. If it does, you can review the video in the link and see if it is worth fighting as you might have a good enough case to beat it or get a judge to dismiss it.

Pretty sure red light camera tickets don't go on your record since they don't know/can't prove who was driving the car.

The number of days looks like the suspension time so the five month old ticket should still be a concern for the next 2 years and 7 months.

Red light camera infractions are civil, not criminal. They do not count at all. It is simply another way of extracting $$$$$ from the populace.

Jrma posted the list that affect CDL status. There is also the point system in Texas, and if you get enough tickets that your points add up, then it would be suspended just like it would for a non-CDL holder. (Red light cameras do not have points.)

I am glad you are being careful to protect your license, and thus your livelihood. You also need to be very careful and thorough doing your pre-trip inspections, because most companies (including mine) are now getting rid of drivers if they get too many DOT inspection violations. The whole CSA score thing is another big albatross that the ZERO in Washington has hung on our industry, driving companies out of business, drivers out of work, and causing generalized shortages and price increases. In other words, our industry is under attack by a hostile government. Be careful on your pre-trips and avoid DOT Inspection violations! It affects your employability.

My only question about the "red light" possible ticket is, were you in your personal truck or work truck? The reason I ask is because IF they send a ticket, it will be to whoever the vehicle is registered to. We have had several red light tickets come to where I work and the employees are responsible for the fees. I'm pretty sure it doesn't go your driving record, but embarassing to go have to explain to the boss.
