Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose — in the bathroom with a hypodermic needle still in his arm — inside a Greenwich Village home on Sunday morning, cops said.

He was great in Charlie Wilson's War and Capote but I won't shed a tear for a drug addict.

Wow, kind of sanctimonious.

He was good in every role I saw him in. I think it's a shame that it happened, but he's certainly not the first performer is's happened to. Your statement seems a little harsh to me though. I hope you never have to deal with a family member or close friend in that situation...it can be heartbreaking when it happens.

I'm not going to go light a candle for him nor am I going to sit here and be sad about his life choices but just because I don't agree with one of his life choices doesn't mean I'm on some moral high ground.

I'm sorry but he had a partner and kids that were his responsibility and he chose drugs over that apparently more than once. I get that addiction is a powerful thing to kick, especially heroin, but Hollywood tends to glamorize these people while forgetting that they chose this path. I've dealt with addiction more than once in my family and I'm frankly tired of the excuses. I hope you never have to deal with drug dealers threatening your family because your father couldn't pay the bill and I hope you never have the FBI kick down your door because your father robbed banks to pay that bill.
It appears my opinion is not a popular one so I'll bow out now.

The movie "Capote" was partially shot in my mother's home at Point Dume. My younger brother posted the following on Facebook:
The Annoyed Brother wrote:With Philip Seymour Hoffman's passing I am reminded of the few days he spent filming the Costa Brava scenes from "Capote" in my mom's place at Pt. Dume. My mom had been warned by the producers not to bother Hoffman while there as he had a habit of staying in his own space when not shooting. It's not the sort of thing my mom would do anyway. As she was crossing through the living room during a break, he invited her to sit down and join him at the table where he was sitting alone, and proceeded to engage her in a lengthy conversation about the house -- this while the producers fretted in the corners of the room. He was super decent to an old lady he could have easily ignored. I always admired his work, but this encounter distinguished him more profoundly to me.
I understand why someone might be stonehearted about the death of an addict. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. But I refuse to go there myself because of the fact that this flawed man was very decent to my old mother, when many would not have been.

Color me any way you want, but I don't know who he is ,probably because I don't watch movies. Most famous people in Hollywood, Chicago, New York, Washington, and a few other places don't impress me. Prayers up for him and his family though.

He was one of my favorite actors.
There are only a few really great ones and he was one of them.
I'll miss seeing him in movies.

Count me as one who supports your position. I have a brother and sister who have been into drugs for as long as I can remember and they have put my late father and mother through more hell than a parent needs to go through. My father was laying in the hospital fighting for his life and my sister was up there making his life miserable because her sons other grandparents had filed to remove her son from her care.
I have no sympathy for those who choose a life of drugs and will not shed one tear for those that end up paying the ultimate price for stupidity.

I am another who isn't shedding any tears on this one. I consider the man an ingrate. He had a job that few get a shot at and, using his talents, he became very wealthy doing that job. But it wasn't enough. He threw it away all for a cheap high. Lots of folks have problems in this world, that is indeed true, and none of us are without sin, me included. But I guess what bugs me so much about it is just the sheer waste.

That is terrible news. I liked his acting. The man was truly talented. I had no idea he was a drug addict.
