G&A Ranks the Best States for Gun Owners in 2013
Texas is ranked 15th. Hopefully if most of the current bills pass we can improve in ranking in 2014.

TX is #15 and LA is #17? Honestly, I thought they'd be quite a bit higher on the list. New Hampshire and Vermont aren't the first names that come to mind when I think of gun-friendly states, and yet somehow, they ranked better than TX. Go figure...

1. 10 Hours training.
2. Renewal Training.
3. Carry in liquor locations
4. Carry at sporting events.
5. Open carry.

Open Carry should be number 1 one your list. The top 10 in the list not only allow open carry, but allow Constitutional Open Carry. While most people from outside the Northeast are surprised about Vermont (especially given some of their wacky leftist politicians), they have allowed Constitutional Carry, both open and concealed, since the state was founded over 200 years ago. Alaska joined them in 2003 and Arizona in 2010.
Most people think of Texas as a gun friendly state and compared to NY and NJ we are, but overall we are not. We will probably get open carry this year (for CHL holders only) which is a step in the right direction, but we should be shooting for joining AK, AZ, and VT as a Constitutional Carry State (pun intended).

"Open Carry should be number 1 one your list"
"Should" isn't a word applicable to all - it isn't for me.
If it happens o.k. - if not o.k.
Either way, I'm going to remain concealed.

http://www.gunsandammo.com/2013/03/14/g ... s-in-2013/A new bill was just introduced in the Missouri state legislature that would send lawmakers who introduce anti-gun legislation to prison, a week after a group of Democrats from St. Louis introduced an Assault Weapons Ban

OK, Now we're talking. How did they miss out on number 1?

Stripping of Constitutional rights (or even the effort to do so) should be punishable by jail time.

I meant Open Carry is the top reason why Texas wasn't higher in the G&A survey, not whether or not you should carry or want to carry open. The open carry issue is where we lost most of the points in their ranking system.Abraham wrote:"Open Carry should be number 1 one your list"

The surprising Texas stat for me was that only 36% of Texans are gun owners. It seems like about half the folks I have met since moving here 6 months ago are gun owners, so I would have expected higher numbers there.

I have a bunch of friends and relatives, that if asked, will state that they don't own any firearms or sharp knives for that matter.mewalke wrote:The surprising Texas stat for me was that only 36% of Texans are gun owners. Some random spare on the phone asks me that question and the answer is going to be NO. Then let them be surprised if they try to break in.
