Alligator Kills Dog in Seabrook

A Seabrook family says that their 7-year-old Labrador retriever was attacked and killed by an alligator. Nir Golan told the station that on Friday, his dog Tyson went into the nearby lake and was snatched by a big alligator. Witnesses gathered around the dog after the attack where he lay fatally wounded on the ground. A witness and neighbor Roger Speer told the station that he watched the gator drag Tyson under the water several times before he was able to break free.

Witnesses said the alligator has been in the lake before and sometimes neighborhood children feed it.

Feeding a wild alligator is the worst thing to do. They lose the fear of humans and then associate them with food. Pets, small children or someone sitting down next to the water become fair game to this eating machine.

Not that I'm overly worried about the alligator but it's also harmful to them as well for humans to feed them. Seeing as how the Game Warden will probably at least relocate this alligator and possibly kill it since it now has a taste for dogs.

Feeding any wild thing is not a good thing to do. For example, "a fed bear is a dead bear"...sooner or later. We set a trap for a cute little black bear cub yesterday. It had been hanging around for about a month and had lost its fear of humans once it learned where the garbage cans were.

As sad as it is that a family pet died, it's still better than the dog being shot by a cop for no real reason.

Your post has nothing to do with this thread. If you have a different topic, please start your own.

NOTHING to do with this thread?? Not even a little, tiny bit?? The OP was about a family pet that died... my post was about family pets that have died (and there have been many of these instances in the news lately). I understand that you're protective of your thread but you can't say my post has NOTHING to do with this thread. My point was that while this is a sad instance at least this was a natural occurence and it sits better with me than some of the other stories we have heard recently that involve family pets being killed.

Well, I agree with Bill, it has nothing to do with it
yes, it was a pet, but one was killed by an animal and one by a cop.

Thats like saying my dog ran in the street, and the 2 idiots racing on the street last night are linked together, because they both referred to streets.

I agree. Your comments on police shooting dogs do not belong here. You can post about that in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=55915" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

hmm, I don't see it but it doesn't really matter... I'll go back to just being a lurker and not posting.

Train the gator to eat burglars.
