Make That Call...Soon...

#1

Post by speedsix »

...I read the obits online from the town I lived in for 20 of my younger years...yesterday I read that one of my old co-workers had died...hadn't seen him in 41 years...scrolled down to see that another died the same day...they were always cuttin' up together and playin' tricks on each other...kept us all amused...the first 4 people I started to call...have left us...I found our radio dispatcher from the night shift and called his number...his wife said he's been down with a stroke for 3 years and can't talk...he was already in bed for the night...she'll tell him I called and the news...
...when a name comes to mind...a memory...and we think "Someday I'm gonna..." it's important to make it someday soon...it's surprising how much it means to tell someone you still remember them after all these years...

Deep six, I have to agree. With enough time and distance, it is too easy to let friends slip away.

Oops! I'm sorry... I meant speedsix. I once knew someone on another forum who went by "deepsix."

Mrs. Oldgringo went back to B'ham for her 50th HS reunion a couple of years ago. That got me to wonderin' and I looked up my Nashville HS website which is also of the same year. The first three names I entered, all girls whom I had been close to during and after HS, were deceased. After I recovered, I looked deeper and there were quite a few more dead people my age.

Viet Nam hit uselessly into my generation but it does give pause to wonder why them and not me. Call today.

Things not done today, too likely become regrets tomorrow.
