The top link of the 2 above details the arrest of Sherman Turner, 29, by Dallas Police.
He was a security guard who is a police wannabe. The initial arrest was for an outstanding
traffic warrant.
Dallas PD was going to bring charges against him for impersonating a police officer. He had
a white Crown Vic and a police style uniform, since he worked security.
But there appeared to be zero evidence that he had actually claimed to be a police officer,
or done any illegal stops on citizens.
The 2nd link down is just a stub since it wants the readers to sign up for a pay service.
During the arrest, Dallas PD seized Mr. Turner's weapon (brand/model unknown) and the
emergency lights on his Crown Vic. He is working on getting these back.
It must be fun patrolling bad apartment complexes without a pistol. :-)
He must have to use the British system: "Halt, or I'll yell Halt again!!" :-)

Dallas police have determined that they do not have enough evidence to seek charges against a security guard who was arrested for allegedly impersonating a police officer in late January.

I didn't see any indication that he has a CHL.

Years back, I knew a gentleman who drove an auction-bought PD car. He took great pride in pulling up to and informing traffic violators (running stop signs etc) that they were in viloation of the law. *shaking head* I never quite got that--

@ British system-- maybe that's their version of the double tap or the Mosembique-- HALT HALT STOP

I only read the first article but I didn't see any mention of him even having a gun at the time of the arrest. It only states that he could have legally been carrying while on the job or traveling between home and the job.

"Turner, who holds a concealed handgun license, said he is now trying
to make arrangements with police officials to get his gun back, as well
as emergency lights that were taken out of his car."
I took the above quote from my hardcopy of the 2/16/2011 Dallas Morning News
article. It may have been in the 2nd link above, which is just a teaser of the full
article, since they want you to sign up for paid DMN access.
I attempted to find that quote to post it, but did not find it, and just went with
the 2 links above, which told most of the story.

Apparently he's not a very good "Security Officer" either.

I think there is something go on here besides what is in print or pixels. I would not be surprised if there is some history between him the cops.

It depends; a lot of companies don't really do much armed work, and tactical tends to work almost like independent contracting for some of them; you take the work with whoever has it available, and maybe fill in a regular post between better jobs to keep the license active. Just glancing through his license history, it looks like he's gone back and forth between a bunch of smaller security companies, (big ones hate tactical and guarding apartment complexes in bad areas due to liability) sometimes returning to ones he'd previously been employed with, (which wouldn't be likely if he left under less than amicable circumstances - marginal unarmed guards are a dime a dozen and marginal armed guards are only $2 per gross) sometimes working sales rather than guarding, (which implies better people skills than the typical guard) but has maintained firearms qualification since at least 2004, which would be consistent with the above scenario.
Having a personal vehicle outfitted for the work can also be an advantage, since a lot of the smaller companies don't have many spares; getting a guard that comes with a car for a short-term assignment might be the only way they would be able to take a contract during a busy time.

Biggest rip-off renter I ever had was a uniformed security guard at the Dallas Federal building.

I thought that's why they carry whistles. "Stop, or I'll toot!"
